Not only lacks icing but took the marzipan away too. The difference now though is we own the sponge. Hopefully can add a little cream and jam in January.

Speaking of which, how many Arena staff are they likely to trim.

I have seen no conclusion of business posts on the club site so I live in vague hope something is still happening with someone out of contract

Will be interesting to see if we look to lock any of the ‘Big 3’ down to longer contracts - Rudoni, MVE & Wright - maybe that’s where the transfer $ is being redirected?

There was obviously a rumour that Sheaf was getting / had got a new contract, and I imagine he was already one of our biggest earners. So, those wages could now be redirected to give us more long-term security with key players.

Would be worth doing so for the valuations on the balance sheet and potential future sale as much as for their benefit.

Be amazed if MVE or Wright sign one. Rudoni potentially.

Got to be honest, have a slight fear that if we don't go up this year but have an ok to good season those three might not be here this time next year.

Same, and then we’ll be in the position of having to replace not only the talent we’ve lost but also the deadwood on the bench. If we don’t get promoted this season then it’ll prove that the likes of Eccles, Allen, Lati, Bidwell etc aren’t strong enough to provide us with quality depth.

If we lose MVE, Wright and Rudoni, or at least 2 of those, then we’ll need readymade talent to come in as there’s currently no one waiting in the wings ready to jump to that level yet. On top of that we’ll need at least another 3 options to strengthen the squad. Genuinely do feel we’re looking at a minimum of 5 signings next summer if we lose 2 or 3 of our main stars.

So we could still lose Haji then?

After all, he came to us from Turkey . . . . .

I read recently that he was on £7,500 a week with us, so not one of our bigger earners. I have no idea if this is correct.

As someone who signed and was made captain I’d be amazed if that’s true. I’d have guessed 10-15 at least.

True but tbf it’s hard not to mention him when you’re talking about our bench, it’s so thin that Eccles alone probably makes up 1/3 of our midfield bench options. I don’t hate him I just don’t think he offers much in terms of being able to turn a game around if we’re losing. Seriously hope we don’t get bad injuries to Grimes or Rudoni, gonna be a long old season if so.

I think it's the domino effect, eg when Isak went through, Newcastle could confirm Wissa etc.

Somewhere down that chain we were anticipating MVE to go so may have had target A, but without the funds were looking at target B, C or even D without the sale and didnt want to commit to that early and potentially miss out on our main target if he did go.

Of course it didnt' that's why I separated the lines, bad wording by me to say that chain, but I meant hypothetically and split to avoid confusion sorry, merely an example. I thought. I'm sure there are many different chains, but all clubs will have more than one target and it might be that MVE wasn't target A and they got target A over the line, so never came back.

We were bidding like £20m worth of bids while there was zero interest in MvE so not sure I buy that. Money is clearly there. The problem seems to be in selecting realistic targets who’s wage expectations we can meet.

Were we? Is that confirmed by the club or just on here / twitter? I'm sure we would only have had one of those at a time and as I said, perhaps we couldnt increase Hughes (assuming we went for him) form eg 8m to 10m unless MVE was sold. It's just an example not a specific of why business must be done late. Despite waht many think or may want, in footballing terms I don't think our pockets are that deep.

The ITKs said Hughes (which was widely reported) Woolfenden (which happened) and a forward. We were linked with Godo who went for £7m, even if that was too rich you’re talking £14m in bids for Hughes and Woolfenden we know about.

There was clearly money to spend.

Nobody is arguing there isn't money to spend, the point is, was it Hughes and Wolfenden or was it Hughes or Wolfenden? Would Hughes only have happened if MVE went? We'll never know. Did the Sheaf money cover the Wolfenden fee? As for the ITK's who do you think they are? Only Jimmy really with any credit and he never shared anything, ITK's now = guessers and that's fine, but it's like Chinese whispers. According to this site, Facebook and Twitter the Bovin & Hughes deals were completed on Friday. As soon as someone says it and another repeats it, then it spreads like wildfire and suddenly becomes fact.
