It's just awful.

We've also had Lee Anderson asking why anyone would want to go to Bradford (we know why you don't want to Lee) and another Tory saying his hometown feels like a foreign country.

The reality is that is the choice. Starmer and co don't represent my views but anything is better than this.

An elected tory heckling Braverman during her speech.

This is an utter disaster for them.

HS2 Is now Half Speed 2, the train will run from Birmingham to Manchester on existing rail and not at high speed. What a fucking waste of money.

Apparently most of the attendees at the conference are leaving tonight due to a rail strike so will miss Sunak’s speech where he’s expected to announce the cancellation of a high speed rail service to the venue.

Of course it is. The reason I’m banging on about Brexut is the tactics are the same. A few nutters in Tory shires wanting to protect their privilege (be it avoiding tax or keeping their property prices high) start a load of nonsense co opted by useful idiots on the far left and presented as some war on ordinary people.

Is HS2 expensive? Yes. Is it because it’s HS2? No. It’s because everything is expensive to build in this country because we spend years pandering to people like Monbiot and still don’t produce the green utopia he claims to want. So we get the worst of both worlds. You want it cheaper? Just build the fucking tracks, no trying to hide it all so our beautiful fields aren’t ruined like these horrific hellscapes:

View attachment 32007View attachment 32008

If you’ve got an issue with consultants then streamline the planning process so they aren’t needed and campaign for in house staff for those that are. If you’ve got an issue with the environmental aspect explain why you’re in favour of road traffic over rail and how we are ever going to build anything to satisfy you. If you want local rail then you have to back HS2 because it’s impossible to get local capacity up without it.

Again, like Brexit, a complex large scale project most don’t fully understand but every expert in the area agrees is needed bar a few cranks.

Is everyone who disagrees with you a crank? You don't half get emotional over this sort of stuff which doesn't really help your argument.

This obviously isn't Brexit, and it's not just a few Tories in the shires. It's 100bn pounds worth of investment that an awful lot of people from the National Audit Office downwards have got serious questions about.

Pretending to be cleverer than everyone else doesn't win the argument mate. Not does ranting about Brexit, which isn't actually an infrastructure project.

Where's your evidence that local rail can *only* be improved by HS2?

What alternatives have been seriously considered and costed?

I've no problem with infrastructure investment but it has to be shown to the benefit of the whole country and HS2 has never convincingly made that case, even right at the start.

As it gets more and more expensive it makes even less sense to me, and I'm definitely not a Tory from the shires...

Because the scrapping of the Manchester to Leeds section meant connectivity’s between Liverpool to Hull can’t happen as there isn’t the tracks laid for trains to travel on. The scrapping of Birmingham to Manchester is the second kick in the teeth to the North where HS2 is concerned.

I am emotional. I love this country and I’m sick of seeing it meander into decline for no good reason.

HS2 has not made that case *to you* but it has to business and transport experts and northern leaders and everyone else who has had the time and expertise to decide these things.

And no not everyone who disagrees with me are cranks but cranks do tend to disagree with me. It’s the same empty stuff, you talk about emotional but your entire argument is an appeal to emotion with no credible alternative policy proposals.

Depends what you mean by “it”. HS2? No. Political discourse in this country? 100%.

Wr got what we wanted. We wanted a system that consulted every man and his dog and gave them all accommodations. Did you think that would come for free? If we no longer want that I suggest we let the politicians know so they can change the law.

Well I was against it from the start, but I've recently been won round by the arguments for it, I can't be in favour of this current scaled back version though, no ones convinced me that's worth ploughing ahead with.

I see they are introducing A-Level reforms for a time period they will never have to honour.
Good opportunity though to grift some more cash out of the pot for their ‘consultant’ friends to have.

One of the 'more trains' announcements he's made apparently means there will be a route with a train every 3 minutes. If you believe that you'll believe anything

No longer solves the problem it was supposed to, does it.

Biggest joke is the North wanted it and the South didn't, so both get the opposite of what they wanted!
