It's not the most important issue facing the country is it?

There was a report yesterday on the increase in homeless children for example. This received less attention than a very privileged man's issues relating to a bank account with an elite bank.

Let's face it this is another example of the right trying to flood the media with rubbish to avoid the media spotlight on what they should be reporting. Classic Steve Bannon tactics of course ('flood the zone with shit'). I just can't see this one appealing to many, though, especially in a cost of living crisis.

Yet again when the two-child benefit cap comes up he spouts some bollocks about uncosted spending commitments. Well how about doing a few sums you fucking twat because it’s clear that your policy stance on this is dog shit.

Is it though, latest polling suggests 60% are in favour of retaining the cap with 20% supporting it being abolished. He’s trying to get elected

Id imagine there’s also better spending options than changing the cap, like ploughing more into child care support, supporting the poorest with one or two kids better, making free school meals more widely available etc.

The cost to implement the policy is minuscule in the grand scheme of things, and would have a more positive and potentially immediate impact in reducing child poverty. It’s a no brainer - all the other stuff you’ve said is fluff comparatively because it’s words and gestures than actual clear and implementable policy.

I am also an advocate of universal free school meals, if you want kids to do well at school, make sure they are nourished.

So you think Farage's bank account should be the top news story?

Well I don't know what would be the top news story and I am sure not everyone would agree with what that should be. Also surely if people want to discuss it they do and if they do not they don't

Farage, not satisfied with having the Prime Minister personally intervene to depose the CEO, now wants the whole board to resign. Presumably there’ll be no justice until anyone with the first name Nat, or the last name West have also been fired from their jobs in disgrace.

Farage still first item on the BBC news at 1.

We keep having these non public interest stories to deflect from the real issues. Why did we have the Huw Edwards story and this one? I get why the right wing papers like the Mail and Express would be all over this and the tabloids on Huw Edwards. But why the responsible media? It's not like there is an absence of important issues.

Do you think Farage being able to bank with Coutts is more important than the consultants' striking? Than climate change? Homeless children?

Of course you can talk about what you want but why is the BBC focussing on these obvious deflections.

Farage is an absolute wanker but he’s very good at playing to his crowd. Quite amazing that he’s managed to build up this ‘man of the people’ image simply by holding a pint now and then.

The BBC the right wing media? It's headlining on all media outlets isn't it?

It's a news item - it's hardly deflecting from anything - you do seem to have a low opinion of the average person in the UK that they can only cope with a single issue at a time.

I still have no clue why Farage is the only person in the country who has the right to a bank account other than a basic bank account from one of the governments nine designated providers

Sad state of affairs when the country is falling apart and there's horrific news on a daily basis but the thing that gets the government to spring into action is a millionaire not being able to use one particular bank

Yeah, I've not really been paying much attention to it, but I thought it was he had his Coutts account closed because he no longer met the financial criteria to have one. Considering the stuff banks will happily let people get away with as long as they've got money I'd be amazed if they'd cancelled it due to his political views. If anything I'd expect institutions like that to be more pro his views than anti.

Is this latest furore related to something else?

There was a 36 page dossier regarding his views which came to light from Couts - the CEO decided to tell a BBC journalist all about it at a shindig fundraising event as they sat together. She admitted what she said was not accurate and a breach of confidentiality.

I think the court case was contrived to deflect us from the nasty government

It is pretty strange behaviour

No optimism, hope and an acknowledgment nothings likely to get better - never seen an opposition like it

It's just dysfunctional, though perhaps they're banking on being elected anyway and then being able to over achieve against little expectation?

Meanwhile in other news. Just when you think this story couldn’t get any more twisted

Dan Wootton Paid Porn Stars with Sun's Depp Money for Covert Catfish Sex Videos

In the fourth part of its three-year special investigation, Byline Times reveals how the GB News presenter and MailOnline columnist used News UK cash to pay male adult actors to secretly film themselves having sex with men he had targeted on Facebook
bylinetimes.com

I can’t help get the feeling that there’s still more to come.

Well the story only really took off once Rose weighed in with incomplete facts. After that, I don’t think you can pretend the story isn’t a compelling one.

Well saying it can't get any better than what is happening now and anything different is pie in the sky nonsense seems to get the Tories elected pretty much every time, so maybe they've decided they're going with that.

But it's depressing. We have an unpopular, scandal ridden government that are constantly making themselves look stupid and out of touch with economic and social problems rife and growing. The best chance to get in while offering something new and instead they say 'hah, we'll just do what the Tories are doing." People are going to think if they're just getting the same they may as well vote for the Tories.

OK, for the lack of confidentiality I guess she had to go.

But has it actually been confirmed his account was closed due to his views rather than his finances? Just cos the dossier exists doesn't mean it's the reason the account was closed, and it's definitely up Farage's street to spin an outcome to make him look like a pariah for his political views.

He’s spot on, more affordable houses need to be built (or made from conversions) and quick, however, londons population has grown 1.25m (14%) in 10 years and about 2.25m in 20 years. Infrastructure can’t keep up with those numbers, without proper long term planning, however much you chuck at it. Many are still struggling to get their heads around supply and demand. Basically the young have been screwed by all parties

There’s no guess about it. Bizarre reaction by reeves in a rare break from Starmers views that it’s a witch hunt as she’s a woman.

They held a meeting which made numerous minuted references to his politics and said those politics didn’t align with the banks values. The decision to remove him followed said meeting
