The amusement he takes from ‘Fernanda’ and ‘Grendull’ really shows his level of intelligence

I don’t hate it. I acknowledge I did and freely admit that I made a mistake. Remind me all you like. I’m big enough to admit my mistakes Fernanda. All you’ve got is the support of the pound shop Enoch Powell and his pound shop Father Dougal Maguire parrot to play to your pound shop Michael Foot.

I know you’re going to struggle with explanations but it was directly in response to Fernando deliberately (not for the first time when he hasn’t got an argument) using the female spelling of my name. I’m sure he thinks it’s equally amusing, so I join in with the joke.

Johnson is such a useless c**t.

I can't believe (well actually I can I suppose) that £200k of public money was spent on his defence which so far consists of:

I didn't know what the rules were
Nobody told me what the rules were
The rules were impractical
Other people were doing it too

Not that many though really, is it. Expected more fruitcake Tories to rebel than did, tbh!

Yeah, not really a big rebellion was it and means it would’ve passed without opposition support which was probably important to Sunak. Can probably name the nutters.

Pritti Patel trying to get herself kicked out of Govetnment? If she really did follow through on her threat to vote against, can't have the Home Secretary doing that surely?

I’ve got to be honest, all I can think of during this committee hearing is, with hindsight, how ridiculous some of the covid rules were, especially later on in the pandemic.

I had this flashback recently about the rule which said only one hour of outside exercise a day

?!?

From the BBC:

BBC said:
Several high-profile Tory MPs said they would vote against it - Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Priti Patel among them

And it turns out she did indeed vote against the Government. Surely makes her position untenable.

Perhaps your earlier post about the influence of Johnson was way off the mark

Agreed, it's no real defence of course for members of the government that imposed them but they were in retrospect (and probably at the time) irrational.

Not really sure what relevance that has really though - the party as a whole has no role in the government

The party as a whole has the power to vote in who's in charge, and select or deselect MPs. It's kind of significant if a lying ignoramous who doesn't even know what the rules he came up with were is still held in thrall by many of them.

The same as Corbyn was hated by MPs, but loved by members.

Not sure they’ll be able to pin the ‘lie to parliament’ on him unless there’s any documentary evidence. It’s hard to determine what someone thought in their own minds even if evidence suggests otherwise

They seemed to be heading for the time taken to correct the record as the approach they were going for, which I guess is maybe more able to be proved? After all, as soon as it came out, people would have been saying hang on, what's this all about.

They still look like shit parties mind you!

So apparently it was ‘essential’ to thank leaving staff – but not essential for people to say goodbye to loved ones?

His whole defence seems to rest on his own belief about what the rules mean to him, i.e they don't apply.

To all normal people a leaving do is not essential to work. It's nice but not essential.

To Boris Johnson it is essential.

Remember when you said no one cares about parties?

Here were are 18 months and 2 prime ministers later still talking about parties.. People obviously do care.
