And you could take it a step further if you wanted to be anti-Conservative while doing so, you can also point out that Churchill was Stalin's best mate when it suited him. A Tory, buddying up with a Communist!

Michael Foot said he classed Enoch Powell as one of his closest friends and in many ways politically aligned

Sadly wrong though. Goebbels and Strasser did push for a more socialist agenda in the late 20s, Hitler shut it down. The name is as meaningful as the ‘Democratic’ Republic of Congo

It may not be your socialism, but that doesn't mean there were some pretty socialist elements within it.

On a more moderate level, John Major probably doesn't recognise this Conservative government as one he'd have been happy to be part of, but it doesn't mean that they don't share some tendencies.

Well no it’s just that there were attempts to take the Nazis more to the left and they were overruled. That and making ideological enemies with the USSR

More to the left in certain areas. A state controlled programme of works is as socialist as you can get! Genocidal mania... well I'll pass on that myself really!

Its the same as Nick Griffin's BNP policies (protectionism, tariffs, higher income taxes to fund state projects) were always pretty left. It came with it some somewhat more distasteful policies(!) And that, of course, is why you don't say Hitler was a bit of a nutter but built some lovely motorways, other than with massive self awareness of how that just doesn't work in anything but a range of '90s sitcoms.

Nonetheless, far left and far right becoming somewhat indisinguishable is not a particularly controversial thing, even if I shudder to agree with Grendel. I'm not afraid of Hitler loving state intervention, it doesn't mean I'm an anti-semetic psychopath who wants to take over the world and eradicate races I deem to be inferior by him doing so!

Did anyone notice that Mordant said Lineker played on the left wing in her speech? He didn't: he was played out of position on the RIGHT wing at Barcelona for a short while. This makes me think that probably, either:

a) They really are clueless about football and can't do the most basic research, or
b) They knew it was the right wing, but changed it to left to suit their position!

There are those that say the political spectrum of left and right eventually curve round and form a circle.

I'll freely admit I would likely feel more affinity to a moderate right winger (say Rory Stewart) than far left wingers supporting Communism and the most rabid part of left wing culture.

They HATED the Communists, a lot of which comes out of an attempted Marxist revolution there: Spartacist uprising - Wikipedia

A lot of future Nazi's were radicalised to the right by that and also fought against the Marxists.

Sunak’s shitting it. Just released a statement on a Saturday night. Didn’t even dare to wait until Monday. Suddenly finding out who the silent majority are after all. Spoiler alert, it isn’t the Tories and their client press.

Also looks like the BBC didn’t have the right to take the action they did against Lineker. According to themselves.

Gary Lineker row: PM hopes BBC dispute 'can be resolved'

Mr Sunak also reiterated the government's stance on "stopping the boats" before finishing the statement by saying "I know not everyone will always agree, but I do believe this is fair and right".

On the "stopping the boats" policy, "I do believe this is fair and right". Well, he's half correct!

Stop the boats is yet another vacuous and empty slogan. It was the same stuff pushed by Meloni’s party to get votes from those easily sucked in by their nonsense - rather than stopping them, there have been over 17,500 arrivals - 3 times the number of last year.

The Lineker bounce.

Not sure what the Tories are going to fight the next election on. Clearly not their own record in government and the phoney culture war that they’re trying to stoke clearly isn’t going to work either. The silent majority has found their voice and it isn’t who 30p Lee claims them to be.

People can't fart nowadays without someone wanting to put them down. Left, Right, LBQT 7 protected rights.

I buy into people having a voice of course. The squeakiest wheel always seems to get oiled. Me, I don't want anyone imposing their values. It gets even more complicated when the rich think they hold Labour / Liberal values when their actions do not bear witness to this.

As I've said before, give Lineker a show of his own. The problem will be that he has limited political awareness and would not last 5 minutes. Lineker does not come over as being 'charismatic' he is just a very naughty boy.

And another thing, Lineker has a good life. I wonder if he wants all the shit he's created over the past few days?

I don't think Lineker wants his own show and I don't think he claims to be any kind of political commentator.

And I don't think he wanted all this shit over the last few days no, but I can't imagine he expected his tweet to cause such uproar considering it didn't break any BBC rules.
