And yet the right wing still harp on about it being lefty. It's never been lefty. back in the 50's and 60's they used to mark employees files they suspected of being communist with a symbol so they were kept a close eye on.

Yep. Not a fan of people being denied a platform, even if I disagree with them. Argument being that you'll be able to show it up for the nonsense it is. I'm against the treatment of JK Rowling and others because of their views on gender. I'm against denying the right wing fascists the chance to speak because the alternative is they go underground and can claim that they're being silenced because they have a point. Give them enough rope to hang themselves I say. I think the likes of Farage and Nick Griffin are dickheads but I've never supported them being barred from things like Newsnight, again because invariably they make themselves look stupid. Even the flat-earthers and creationists even though their views are complete nonsense.

Does that answer your question ESB?

I also thought of the Nick Griffin QT appearance years ago. Annoyed me how no one gave him the opportunity to speak and was busy booing him and interrupting him. Far easier to listen to what he has to say and then prove it to be categorical bollocks than run a pseudo-pantomime which, as you say, gives the narrative of being the ‘silent majority’.

The best argument against no platforming people is the people you want to no platform are so stupid they prove your point for you.

Worth pointing out that this should read the remaining support of the DUP as their traditional support demographic has been abandoning them for the last decade. Either way it’s not good news for a return to power sharing as they’ve got the excuse they need. I doubt it will effect the Windsor agreement as labour are behind it but Sunak still has a big issue regarding NI.

Suggestion from Henry Winter on twitter that the BBC could now be in breach of contract with the Premier League for failing to provide the required level of coverage

Obviously pulling PL coverage from the BBC would be the league shooting itself in the foot but you can imagine there will be some interesting conversations taking place in the next few days

Please link me to posts where you have come out in defence of JK Rowling. I've just searched your name and JK Rowling, and there is crickets (other than some sideways comment about women's bathrooms). You didn't denounce the treatment of her, certainly no performance in the same way that you are jumping up and down about Lineker. It's easy to say you support those people now, but where were you when it was kicking off then? It's completely selective and unfortunately you are a hypocrite, as are most of the people up in arms about what's gone on in the last few days. No amount of laughing emojis is going to detract from that.

They’ve BBC’d it and backed themselves into a corner they can’t get out of. Started with their opposition to the GFA, escalated it with their support of Brexit and cemented it with their current stance on the problem they created which has all led them to this point. Unionist are now destined to be a junior partner forever.

But where do I say I offer support for Lineker? As it's something that's only a day or so old they can't be hard to find.

By the way, came across this. From the tone of it you can tell I think the treatment of Rowling is unfair.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Its a pound shop share ownership scheme Which is better than a pound shop non-share ownership scheme.

So you don't offer support for Lineker? Which is it? You're just back peddling because you got called out for being a hypocrite. Your post earlier today was literally a monologue about free speech, but it's the first time you've piped up about it. You also came after me, not something someone would do if they didn't care. You didn't do the same thing about anyone posting on JK Rowling, and I suppose your hand just keeps slipping on the emoji button as well?

Also - your comments about JK Rowling previously I've already been through and atested to earlier. It's wet as water. Grow up and own it. Hypocrite.

I explicitly offer as much support to Lineker as I do to Rowling.

So if you say I've not spoken up about Rowling I've not spoken up about Lineker either. Or on the other hand I've offered support to Lineker, in which case I've offered support to Rowling.

Pick one.

Otherwise it just looks like you're skewing it to fit what you want to think.

Apparently comparing the Tories to 1930s Germany is wrong...

because actually Nazis were left wing.

Another fascinating fact, but the first election after WW2, it was the Conservatives hinting that actually that pesky socialist Labour Party had Nazi tendencies, for that very reason.

I mean, it's an interesting philosophical argument not to be taken particularly seriously isn't it, as the point is when things echo authoritarianism, regardless of left or right. I mean ffs Blair got similar innuendoes when ID Cards were mooted.

That's true, but they were socialist in name only and used socialist rhetoric to gain the support of the working class.

And you could take it a step further if you wanted to be anti-Conservative while doing so, you can also point out that Churchill was Stalin's best mate when it suited him. A Tory, buddying up with a Communist!
