What are the odds of MOTD being replaced by a re-run of Dads Army?

Henry Winter is suggesting the show won't air at all now. Seems players and managers have informed the BBC they won't be participating in any media duties

Bit of a mess then.

What happens next week? Lineker is allowed back and carries on as was? Lineker leaves, and so everyone else either has to start co-operating or leave too?

What's the way out?

No one has said she said domestic violence is ok, but what she said, whether she meant it that way or not, trivialised the domestic abuse in the Johnsons house hold as "it only happened once" according to his friends. Its not that far a leap away from saying.."well she was asking for it"

This has rightly been interpreted as trivialising domestic abuse. I'd like to see you try and justify it to a survivor of domestic abuse.. even her domestic abuse charity thought they were poor choice of words.

It is not cancel culture, people want her sacked as she is blatantly biased, every week she hardly challenges the Tory MP and hammers everyone else.

As a man I find those comments completely out of order, I'd be really keen to find out how they landed from a female perspective.

I'm going to leave it there.

We’re going round in circules. But in answer to your question Id explain that Bruce was just trying to do a job as presenter albeit clumsily. I would also say she’s apologised for how her comment may have come across on ‘live’ tv and that she’s a long standing ambassador for Refuge so has probably done a lot more for people suffering from domestic violence than people trying to get her sacked on Twitter

Fiona Bruce ‘appalled and sorry’ after backlash over Stanley Johnson discussion

The presenter faced a social media backlash after intervening when father of former prime minister Boris Johnson was described as a ‘wife-beater’

I've not said at any point I'm fine with it. I don't agree with what is happening at all. I know it isn't popular to say on here, but cancelling is a leftist thing more over. Of course it does happen everywhere, and there are good examples of it coming from different directions. But find one for a leftist opinion, and there's ten for a conservative or (non-woke) opinion. It is usually related to race, religion, sex, gender. To try and argue it isn't is just lacking any sense.

I've also said openly I think people baying for Lineker are hiding behind the BBC argument. I don't agree with their standpoint at all. The Qatar reference might be a sideshow if I hadn't have said the above, but I have, and it stands very true. So many morals were buried and the other cheek was turned. The situation there is far worse than comments Lineker made, but other than Alex Scott wearing a rainbow armband, no one had the balls to make any kind of stand. Now we're seeing pundits striking, producers walking out, and teams threatening not to do interviews? It's ridiculous. I also don't agree with the fact that so many are up in arms about Lineker, but couldn't have given a fuck about free speech up until now. Until it has affected someone that holds a similar opinion to them. I'm not going to back down and give an amnesty on this either, because it's something I've felt strongly about for a while, and it's playing out completely as I expected now.

I don't like Lineker, I certainly don't agree with his opinions, but I defend his right to have them.

Well yeah cos a lot of “conservatism” is racism and homophobia. Not all conservatives are racist/homophobic/misogynistic but an awful lot of classical bigots (as opposed to the new racist homophobes and misogynists on the left who generally aren’t taken to task yet) are conservatives.

The fact is we’ve had BBC presenters literally running right wing magazines to no comment. Look at the anger at Southgate and Linker for holding a non conservative view. Laurence Fox saying not to support England. “Go woke go broke”. Conspiracy theories about left wing leaders. Both sides do this in different ways. And it’s dirty politics on all sides. Although I will say mostly ineffective. England did well and were well supported, Clarkson will land another multimillion pound contract, Hogwarts Legacy broke sales records, Marvel Comics went from strength to strength, I could go on and on.

Welk this is the irony as she was once accused of bias against fathers 4 justice on the basis that she was at the time working for a domestic abuse charity and advertised for them

If you're employed by a domestic a use charity you should be biased in favour of domestica use victims.
If you're employed as a presenter of a political debate program on the national broadcaster you should be I.partial.

Again, I don't think she was excusing domestic violence.

One of the BBC big wig tories will have to resign and issue an apology.

Lineker won't go back while they're still there, nobody will want to take over instead of him, so it's the only option really if they want to carry on with MOTD.

Lineker will end up at Sky possibly.

They don’t seem to have considered that the likes of Wright and Shearer aren’t exactly desperate for cash and the likes of Scott have a load of non BBC media jobs and all of them would most likely walk into a prominent role at Sky if they became available

He didn't express a political belief, just pointed out the obvious parallel between the language of Braverman and co and that of Germany in the 30s. Politics wise Lineker was satisfied with the election of the Tories in 2019 iirc.
