Yeah they’re clearly promoting immigration when trying to look tough on it too. Take the Hong Kong scheme. It’s been extended for a year. 4.5M allowed to apply for it, come here and basically get guaranteed citizenship after a period of time, only 160K has taken it up. It doesn’t sound like there’s hundreds of thousands of people rushing to leave Hong Kong for the UK, anyone who wants to leave has clearly had the opportunity so why extend it? I can’t help but feel that the government is disappointed at the take up, they were expecting more to apply than did and the truth is we need more to apply. I think the government has extended it purely to get more numbers.

Maybe they're just trying to free up all the small boats so they can use them to bring them over

Strangely a review is being taken and the teachers admitted a child was removed for asking questions to the guest who became upset.

No doubt they are making it up and the lessons suspended for fun and the 12 complainants are all Tory actors and. Of actual parents

Another graph that doesn't show that a majority of people think immigration is too high. Outside of the right wind parties and a nationalist party who probably see english folk as immigrants there is not a majority who say immigration is too high.

A little tip for you, the number in the green box needs to be higher than the total of the number in the white and pink boxes

I assume then David you won’t be voting for Sir Starmer as he’s out of touch on this issue as well?

You won't listen, and you are refusing to read what I have said. My original statement that I have repeated over and over is that more people want less immigration in the UK than those who want more. I also said the number of people that want less migration is high, and should be taken seriously (at 44% it is actually close to being a majority anyway, and a significant number). You won't take that seriously, neither most people on this thread - which is one of the reasons why your side has not won an election in so long.

In that regard - the middle ground doesn't count. You cannot just recruit them to your side of the argument (which is what you are doing and then having the cheek to accuse me of). Unless you are getting so muddled up with this, I can only see that you are deliberately twisting what I am saying. Largely because you don't have any actual arguments. You don't want to accept that a lot of people are not happy with the high levels of immigration, which is an absolute fact.

The KS2 maths here is that 44 is bigger than 17 - that's all there is to it.

And 44 is less than 56. And that’s how democracy works.

If you’re teaching teenagers anything about sex you can’t have thin skin. The shit that comes out in those lessons and really you’ve got to assume good faith from any questioners just in case they really do think a salt and vinegar packet makes good contraception or whatever.

I’ll wait for the review of course, seeing as some of the claims have already been disputed. But there is a trend recently of rumours of inappropriate sex education lessons/gender discussions turning out to be rubbish.

I mean it hasn’t started yet. It’s still due to provide more benefit than cost but mostly I’m just sick of this country constantly downscaling things to useless half arsed shite. We’re getting Birmingham to London, at least get Birmingham to Manchester done as well.

I have no doubt there’s enthusiastic teachers taking it too far, or inappropriate guests being occasionally booked. But in the grand scheme of things it’ll be tiny tiny numbers. It’ll just end up generating a load of guidance and training materials for after school CPD and not change the fact most sex education is delivered by bored and/or awkward form tutors.

The Northern bit was supposedly the bit needed most, so why the hell they started by building the Southern bit, God only knows.

Not exactly levelling up.

Read something on it about a week ago.

Scaled back to only Manchester to London. No extra stops to be put in along the line to take on extra passengers as it would make a fast train slower.

Because everything’s got to be London centric or it doesn’t get funded. Same way the great idea for technical innovation is expand Oxford and Cambridge towards London. It’s almost like their levelling up plan is to build out London until is consumes the whole country.

Their levelling up plan has about as much substance as my new year resolution to lose weight and get fit, in fact, I'm probably doing my new year resolution a disservice.

There was around 25 in a single day towards the end of last summer. They’ve started to make them head to northern ports recently.
Just checked and it’s 13,000 arrivals so far this year.

Always said this. Crazy. To be fair though the decision to start in the south was before the whole ‘levelling up’ stuff. Not sure who made the call

Let’s be honest most senior politicians and civil servants spend majority of their time in london and just don’t ‘get it’. It’s like the new Heathrow runway…Birmingham would surely make far more sense if the rest of transport infrastructure was good.

As I’ve said before an improved rail infrastructure was definitely the right move, the delivery, like a lot of large infrastructure projects has not been good. We’re in now though so should just plough on and get it done, anything else is just a lose lose scenario ie still costly and doesn’t even deliver original aims

I didn't agree with it at the time, but it's certainly a total waste of time if it doesn't do what it's supposed to. If we're going to rip up Warwickshire countryside, at least connect the country properly as some kind of payback. Rate we're going we'll end up with all the costs, none of the benefits.

They should have built the first leg of HS2 from Manchester to Birmingham. The cost of the London leg was always going to be more expensive due to the massive CPO and related costs, the labour costs associated with London and competition for workers.

The government behave a bit like north Korea with London, everything is so London centric and foreign dignitaries visiting London will get a very false representation of the UK as a whole.
