I live in Bedworth. The council house is not MBY.

But yeah, I support nuclear power and I’d have an SMR by my house.

Yes. Nuclear is safe and clean. Why are you against it?

Solid argument. Can you actually name your concern or just “nuclear scary”? I bet you’re anti GMO as well.

A list of things that have happened at nuclear plants yes. Are you worried the U.K. will be hit by earthquakes and tsunamis or something?

And what do you think the aftermath of that was, as the biggest disaster in recent memory?

It says nuclear is safer than hydro and wind and significantly safer than fossil fuels:

Looking forward for every major city to build their own miniature nuclear reactor on these results. Or, perhaps not.

What are uranium reserves like? I'm on board with the argument for nuclear but it still isn't the ideal scenario (IE one where the UK is materially self-dependent on its domestic energy supply)

About 135 years left according to this: Peak uranium - Wikipedia

We’ve wasted too much time to worry about ideal. Hopefully 100 years is long enough to get fusion off the ground or significantly improve renewables. I’d still want solar and wind at every viable location personally.

I think you either dodge a subject or find information which suits your cause.

Any idea why nuclear power station are built on coasts, mostly away from population centres, and are scarce in amount built compared to other power plants?

Registering deaths per KWH is just bonkers.

The true toll of the Chernobyl disaster

Covered up by a secretive Soviet Union at the time, the true number of deaths and illnesses caused by the nuclear accident are only now becoming clear.
www.bbc.com

Also have a fly past of the exclusion zone, which is around twice the size of London.

Just out of interest, when do you think the exclusion zone around Chernobyl will become habitable again?

I think our standards would be a bit better than the Soviet ones of 40 years ago. But consider how ‘habitable’ some parts of the world already are because of continued fossil fuel usage. Look at what’s starting to happen each summer with other parts of the world going on fire.

We need a rapid way to immediately wean off coal oil and gas while the long term answer is found.

Chernobyl. Really? You realise how that happened didn’t you? Again do you think that would happen in this day and age? In this country? It’s like saying trains aren’t safe as a technology because of 7/7.

Could Chernobyl happen again without human error?

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster was a catastrophic accident, BBC Science Focus looks at whether this could happen again.
www.sciencefocus.com

What measure would you use?

its like plane travel. Seems big and scary but actually safer than driving.

what is your solution for clean energy exactly?

I just don't think people would be that worried if it was a wind or solar power plant.

Or any other...

I've seen a stat that I found mind blowing, a 10 hour flight on a private jet uses more than 70 years of power for the average home (family of 4). I mean, I knew that private jets were bad just not that bad.

I do. What do you think is going to happen?

You do know how modern nuclear reactors are built don’t you? And again, if the U.K. is hit by war or earthquakes or tsunamis then we’ve got much much bigger problems.

Why not compare us to someone similar like France?

The top 1% are really where we should be focusing the “personal responsibility” stuff. Their usage massively outweighs what any of us even in a developed nation does.

But seemingly if you’re rich you’re a special unicorn who can’t be upset.

Everyone’s a hypocrite, but yeah I’d put them in too. Isn’t Taylor Swift the biggest individual polluter on the planet or something?

The current breed of climate activists get a lot of shit but I thought the XR ones who shut down that airfield used by private jets had the right idea. Focus on that and you’ll probably actually do significant good and have the public behind you.

Looking like China is going to be hit by a big COVID surge as it still pretends to in late 2019/early 2020. Vaccine take up in the elderly is poor and the ongoing restrictions are just not tenable. More supply shock coming for the West.

Things getting hairy over there with protests too. Interesting times. Major change in the two big non western geopolitical poles coming up?

Yes the argument that our problems especially climate change is down to overpopulation isn't right at all. The problem is the behaviour of the richest few.

Private aircraft are responsible for more pollution than commercial aircraft. Yet the rhetoric always seems to be making Joe Bloggs feel guilty about flying to Spain once a year with 80 other people on a Ryan Air flight with a shared carbon footprint. Reality is that if we banned private jets the world can probably sustain commercial flights in conjunction with carbon offsetting projects and we can all travel guilt free.

Been talking about this on Bloomberg today. No change in the market though. China50 went up like a rocket at 6.00am, now holding steady. Can see big changes in the next few weeks if it spreads.
