Listening to Steve’s favourite radio broadcaster earlier and it seems that (not that I think it changed the result for a minute) there was a Facebook campaign led by local tories that the Labour candidate for Hartlepool was anti NHS.

The Labour candidate is also a local GP and part of the local NHS management and had to choose in 2013 what cuts were going to be made when the Tories cut their budget. Wasn’t sold like that on Facebook though. It was his cuts not Tory cuts. Just goes to show what a post truth society we live in.

Its systematic of the new age young labour voters apparently.
She also has never met or spoken to any of my colleagues, some of whome are young, some female, some non white, and yet she referred to them all in the same way.

It would appear that some labour voters carry an abundance of anger and hate.

Its the way they judge anybody with a different opinion and that doesn't vote labour

I haven't said people should vote for any party in particular. I am interested in what is so appealing to that party in particular. What is it that does it for you?

When I expressed this to my Corbyn voting daughter, she said it was because we are all white, middleaged, racist, bnp supporting gammons (whatever that is)

Out of interest when you all didn't vote Labour because of Corbyn did you vote Conservative? If so what was it that attracted your vote? And now that Corbyn is gone has your vote returned to Labour?

Absolutely agree people can do what they want. However the question has been repeatedly asked in recent weeks what it is about the Conservatives that makes people vote for them and so far the answers have been lots of reasons to not vote Labour and nothing about why the Conservatives appeal.

I've had things through the door every day for the Conservatives. One generic leaflet from Labour that just listed all their Coventry candidates, nothing specific to where I live. And nothing at all from the other parties. I had to google who was standing!

Same on Facebook, multiple daily posts from the Conservatives, nothing from anyone else. Interestingly the tactics were similar to those you mention, promises to fix things that are the fault of the Conservative government.

Another thing wrong with Labour voters these days, they think people owe them an explanation of why they voted a certain way. No one owes you anything.

Labour were told by the electorate that they don't listen to the public and then decide to put a Remain candidate in a brexit hotspot and wonder why they lose the seat.
In plain terms people can justify brexit on the back of the vaccine roll out compared to whats gone on in europe and feel justified. It's strengthened Johnsons position no end. He said he'd get Brexit done and has, whether he wanted it or not, and he's the one that's done what the people wanted no what he thinks they wanted.

We've had the same. To be honest they know they'll always get in in Coventry so don't waste the paper and printing. And true to form they have.

Why do you take such exception to being asked such a simple question? What’s the worst that could happen? More Labour voters are convinced to vote Tory because your reasoning is so logical?

Had a lot of heavy canvassing from the Greens and Labour here. What is novel though is the candidate visiting you after you vote to criticise you for not voting for them.

Seems to have been missed amongst the election results but there was another fire in a block of flats today that has the same cladding as Grenfell.

The government said all such cladding would be removed by June 2020. In a shocking turn of events they didn't meet this deadline.

I don't want them to listen to me mate, couldn't give a shit. Some people are just conservative, that's the way it is.
As for the people that have left Labour, as I say, no one owes you an explanation, its up to the party to figure out why they are about as popular as a testicular lump.

Well. I’ve just voted green in the local election and for the police commissioner or whatever title they give them sounds like a wank position and a job everyone forgets about the moment that the voting slip in the box so I drew a spunking cock on it instead of voting so you’re not even remotely close.

I hear your first point. As for the second, I'm just baffled. That's why the question gets asked. Sometimes you get buzzwords like wokeness, identity politics etc. Think I'll just switch off from it for a bit tbh. I'll be alright.

Well might I suggest, for someone who doesn't want Conservatives running everything, not splitting the left wing vote by voting Green. Just a thought.

Looking at the photos it doesn’t look like it was fully cladded in the stuff like Grenfel. Just the areas around the windows, the rest of the construction is brick. Still should have been removed though as promised.

Yes and thankfully no one was killed.

But the government promised to do something that would protect and save lives, and they haven't. But hey, at least they aren't woke.

You're posting in a political discussion thread, not exactly unreasonable to be asked political questions. Especially when there's been a discussion going on for a while about why people vote Conservative.

Wouldn’t have made any difference. I live in a very very safe seat for the Tory councillors. Voting greens at least gives an indication of what is important to me to the other parties and then helps drive agendas through a desire to win my vote.

The other thing is that I don’t think they start counting in Rugby until tomorrow so as far as I know greens might be the dominant “left” party in my area meaning voting Labour would have contributed to splitting the “left” vote more than voting green.

Same here. Not traditionally a Labour voter but voting for anyone else is a wasted vote. Its a vote against the Conservatives rather than a vote for Labour. I have no idea what Labours polices are in this election or the direction Starmer wants to take the party in as his actions are very different to what he promised when he was running for leader. Had to Google who the Labour candidates were for Mayor and PCC which isn't exactly inspiring.

No, I was hammered with sponsored ads on facebook for Johal the Tory PCC and Andy Street. I see the Tory councillor in sherbourne who was posting under a fake account gained the ward. Pretty sure I have a 100% record of voting for the losing side in pretty much everything my entire voting life.

They also backtracked on the original promise. Only buildings over a certain height now count and leaseholders are being left to foot bills instead of the people responsible for the dodgy building practices in the first place.
