The only chance the Tories have in the labour north seats they’ve won is to appeal to those voters in terms of tough immigration stance and to hope Starmer in the next two years makes some comment that suggests rejoining the EU

Suella Braverman is under pressure to answer fresh questions about her resignation last week as home secretary for breaching the ministerial code, after new details emerged that cast doubt on her and Rishi Sunak’s version of events.
Sources have told the Guardian that Braverman was challenged by the cabinet secretary, Simon Case, about the leaking of a sensitive document, rather than coming forward herself about what had happened.
A government insider said: “She only owned up to it when she was confronted with the evidence.”
It follows an intervention by the former chairman of the Conservative party Jake Berry, who said the issue was “really serious” and added: “As I understand it, the evidence was put to her and she accepted the evidence, rather than the other way round.”
The account appears to contradict what Sunak said during his first prime minister’s questions on Wednesday.
When he was justifying the reappointment of Braverman as home secretary just six days after her departure, he insisted: “She raised the matter and she accepted her mistake.”
It’s not just the ERG. She’s also a member of another Tory group who are ironically called “The Common Sense” group. There’s little doubt that she secured Sunak the PM position but old leaky Sue has such sway within the furthest right of the party she’s almost unsackable. He’ll have to at some point but that is probably the point he’ll lose his party. The Tories aren’t even fractured in two because the Boris loyalists clearly aren’t behind Sunak and leaky Sue is public enemy No.2 now, the ERG is even split hence they had to agree to disagree and back no one in the leadership contest, there’s still a number of pro Europeans in the party too amongst I’m sure many other knitting circles. I recon Suella is the only glue holding it together,once she’s gone I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to see it implode. She should never have got the job back and it’s put Sunak on the back foot from day one. Bizarre choice although obviously part of some dodgy leadership dealings which just about sums up the party over the past 12 months. Let’s not worry about just getting the best, most capable people into the top jobs…god forbid

His number one concern was there being no member vote, so getting the likes of Braverman and Badenoch onboard by offering them ministerial roles was probably what was needed.
A lot of who ?Immigration is nothing like the issue it was five-ten years ago. I think what will lose them the red wall votes is more likely to be losing the Johnsonian economics.
Cant be the Hang The Pedos and Fund The NHS Party if you don’t fund the NHS. These are people who voted Brexit for better jobs and more public spending. I think a lot of them see immigration as resolved now were out the EU.

Of all their failings this is the worst but it won't get much attention. They just pretended to care when we hosted COP. Since then they have shown complete contempt for the environment.Seems that after the government put the block on King Charles attending the COP27 summit Sunak has now pulled out. Good to see the new government taking climate change seriously.
