To be fair I think May and Truss were from local comps….they’re probably not a ringing endorsement for public education though !!! I agree in an ideal world it would be great to move away from the Oxford graduate PMs but that shouldn’t diminish it being a positive moment for the country to have its first Asian PM

Gordon Brown state educated in leafy Kirkcaldy, went on to Edinburgh a year early, represented his home constituency thereafter etc. The last statesman to hold the office and to be honest a more meaningful success story than the latest Tory to be handed a level of privilege that most people white or otherwise can but dream of.

Pretty underwhelming so far. Smacks of deals done for leadership support/trying to hold party together

*just seen Tony’s Ian Dunt post saying same

I was joking about May and Truss and state education (Im from a comp). Agree, Brown was probably the last statesman we’ve had as PM. I do see Sunak as a bit different to the Eton boys though

Potential talk of economic statement Halloween being delayed.
What a shame, I'd like to see all of the recent OBR calls for the last 3months.

I know he needs to appease the right of the party but fuck me is he trying to beat Truss' record for shortest serving PM?!

There's some bizarre appointments. Its not like Braverman was any good at the job, she was truly appalling. Raab back to justice is even more bizarre, he was a complete fuck up in that role and things didn't get sorted until someone else came in to clear his mess up.

So many Johnson cabinet members as well, very easy attack line for labour.

Exactly. Their ratings are in the gutter, it's a chance to bring in some fresh faces and ideas. .. Instead he just brings back all the people associated with aforementioned dreadful ratings.

But also a sad indictment of politics and our way of governance that such important roles are filled not by knowledge or intelligence but personal ambition and private gentlemen's agreements.

I presume he’s calculating that a majority of the poor ratings were due to Johnson and Truss personallyand wanted to keep people with cabinet experience at least initially…and no doubt due to promises made during leadership bid/for party unity

He shouldn’t have had Bravermann back and Cleverly shouldn’t have been in such an important role especially in current global climate to start with, so can’t work out why he’s not shifted him ?! Drop different people in those roles and would’ve had a different feel.

As others have said leaves an open goal for Labour

Thankfully for the most part it's civil servants doing the actual work that these people are responsible for

Never heard of her, but as someone who became a Tory through hating trade unions she's going to be in for an interesting time of it in a few months as and when we go out on strike.

Well they all will, mostly because they've been given their ministerial roles based on appeasing the party rather than merit, and civil servants tend to be appointed on merit first.

I hope they don't waste 3-4 questions on Braverman .
It was apparently a low level misdemeanour and more about resigning to put Truss at the precipice.
If I were a conspiracist I'd say it was a set up.

Have to say it's been a very strong performance by Starmer. Sunak has no answer so reverts to 'but he supported Corbyn 3 years ago'

A 'but Corbyn' in his first PMQs.

And a shot at Starmer being part of the elite, from the richest person in the room by a mile.

Pathetic stuff really
