Lack of immigration. If you look at high immigration countries they’re not seeing the same effect. Says in the thread U.K. used to be low immigration and had one of the oldest populations in the world, now 4th youngest in Europe (before Brexit obviously).

Ukraine MP lays out brilliant tactic to usher UK out of energy crisis

BRITAIN'S ENERGY crisis could be solved with one easy fix that would also deliver a moral blow to Russia, a Ukrainian MP says.

It'd be interesting to see zoomed in when some of those countries peaked. The Eastern Bloc countries it's hard to see? The end of communism?

Probably. The prosperity to fertility inverse link is well known so make sense it would drop once a large portion of the population come out of poverty.

I’m sure there’s a good reason we shouldn’t do this but I’m not seeing it.

You could argue that the money was originally stolen of the Russian people by the oligarchs, Putin isn’t going to be there forever so at some point we should return it to the Russian people.

Went to the British Museum for the first time the other week, it was great, who needs to visit other countries when it’s all here?

I totally agree. The next GE should be a forgone conclusion and the sort of golden opportunity for Labour & Starmer that Boris had. Can he exploit it though with bold policies to take this country out of this self imposed shit pit of a last dozen years.

Uk population predicted to still grow +5% over same period as others drop significantly though....

I'm guessing that's a combo of continued immigration from outside EU and immigrant population legacy too...

It was always going to - those expecting less immigration are going to be disappointed. This time though they’ll be coming from countries with even lower wages.

I'd be interested to understand if anybody has modelled what the ratio of population size needs to be between over 70s and those still in employment given the former's need for services provided by the latter

I’ve always wondered if it’s to do with a private vs public persona - much like how Johnson is supposed to use his first name privately?

I mentioned it the other day but the government is actively trying to recruit 160k workers to work in the care industry from India and Philippines. I think they intend for them to be qualified nurses but there’s a technicality somewhere that they can’t go straight into the NHS so the plan is they work in care homes for 12 months and then go into the NHS as qualified nurses. Then I guess we’ll have to recruit at least another 160K overseas workers to replace those jobs in the care system.

It's the whole 'man/woman of the people' bollocks that well-off Tories try to pull. A bit like Truss claiming that she went to a rough school in Leeds when in fact it was one of the best schools in Yorkshire.

They're one of us, you see. They feel our pain.

This is already happening. And I think there maybe some mechanism where by they work so long in the care industry and then they get a work visa to work where they like.
