How is it deflecting? You think Starmer is unelectable for whatever reasons yet are seemingly fine with what Corbyn says there.

The whole clip is a shambles from start to finish.

Firstly he's appearing on a pro Russian channel that parrots Russian propaganda. (plus it's pro Assad and pro Hezbollah).

Then he says Ukrainian citizens and Russian soldiers are comparable.

No mention of Ukrainian soldiers.

Says we should not arm Ukraine.

Says the only way to resolve it is sit down for peace talks.

Says Africa has no economical interests in Russia or Ukraine.

It's fucking awful from start to finish. I don't know how anyone could defend that and then say Starmer is unelectable.

The only way to resolve it is peace talks so I hardly see that aspect particularly problematic

Comparing to Starmer and his ability to be PM is odd - where’s the relevance

Firstly I never said I defended it, you just assume that.

The clip is 2 mins long, but I assume it was longer…..interestingly whatever question he was asked has been cut out
He didn’t compare Ukraine citizens with Russian soldiers he said ‘young conscripted Russians soldiers’ I guess his implication here is against their choice but I agree that it’s a comparison that shouldn’t have been made.
Africa has no economic gain from war, but does gain from peace in terms of food supply.
In terms of peace - what do you propose then, because we’re 8 months in - no closer to a solution and everyone appears to have stopped caring.

It doesn't really matter what question was asked does it, we have his answers and his answers are not good no matter the question.

Well he proposes peace talks, presumably with Ukraine ceding territory. The people of Ukraine do not want this. This would be a disaster.

At no point does he suggest Russia withdrawing.

This is for the other thread, but we are closer to a Ukraine victory than at any point so far (it's not close - just closer). The Russian army is struggling, hugely.

Because it takes about 30 seconds to find out...

"In its coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Al Mayadeen strictly follows the coverage guidelines published by the Russian State, with articles reflecting the general terms, storylines, and topics similar to those presented by Russian state media outlets to Russian audiences. For example, Al Mayadeen refers to the presence of Russian military within Ukraine as a "special military operation" rather than "invasion" or "war". "

Of course the question matters - because if nothing else it may well explain the absence of other statements that you are up in arms about.

Also you’ve made some ridiculous statement just now about his idea of peace meaning Ukraine ceding ground which you’ve made up out of thin air.

I'm only 'up in arms' about him not mentioning Ukrainian soldiers. My others points are not about an absence of statements, but relate to what he actually said.

And its not ridiculous to suggest he was implying that Ukraine would have to cede ground. Unless you think Russia would agree to a peace deal that sees them leave with...nothing. Now that is ridiculous.

I don’t know why you’re fighting this. The deal with Corbyn was always decent domestic policy aligned with really really terrible foreign policy. He’s literally been campaigning against arms to Ukraine from the start on principle.

The fact is without arms Ukraine would already be wiped off the face of the earth. The fastest way to peace is in fact to stop Putin in his tracks. And that’s why having a cast iron principle about war isn’t the wonderful empathetic ideal it’s put across as but in fact capitulation to the worse of humanity.

It is, but it shows why pacifism is ultimately wrong. Strip everything away and he’s promoting the idea of giving up Ukraine to Russia. He may be coming from a warm fuzzy place, but that’s where he ends up. And the fact that he can’t see that is a big reason why he’s not suitable to lead. Principles are great, but they have to meet reality at some point and overly rigid ones can lead to some horrific decisions.

Shmmeee beat me to it

I respect he’s a pacifist, that’s his call but this is the real world we live in

Add to that for a supposed pacifist he appears to have a total inability to condemn some pretty evil people/actions. Strange

I wasn’t giving agreement by the way. All conflicts end in peace eventually, but the kind of peace we’d get by not helping Ukraine and ‘letting Putin crack on with it’ would see a country wiped off the map and a mini genocide carried out.

Well there is an awful lot of crossover between people who like Corbyn and people who don't like Starmer. That is a fact.

Doesn't mean that only people who like Corbyn don't like Starmer. And I've never said that.

Ok disbanding our nuclear deterrent is maybe a bit OTT but he said he opposes the use of them and from memory refused to commit to use them, so he may as well disband them

I don’t think the other comments are bollocks. He’s just said arming Ukraine is wrong and he’s never had a good word to say about nato

Whether he had a good word to say about NATO or not - there was a clear manifesto commitment to stay part of it as well as continue our nuclear programme.
I don’t have a clue how to end this conflict, but we don’t appear to anywhere near a resolution currently - just in some never ending stalemate where people just die for no reason.
