It was the basis of them winning the General Election. It was 'getting Brexit done'. And we knew what we were voting for innit.

He is, however, tapping into a perception many have of Starmer, that will need to be overcome.

It’s the ultimate fake news isn’t it? To be fair to Boris and the other members of the cabinet they’ve nailed it. Blame someone else for your woes and we are the answer

Missing a bit of the context of this.

He has pleaded guilty and what duration applies?

It was said half in jest mate, however, there appears to be a number of issues with politicians etc these days…so I just wondered if there is/was much of a character assessment ? As you indicate though most have probably been in that world for a while

Brighton, with a new team after dismantling the team which beat Man U 4-0 four years ago, failed to make any real progress against a team whose public perception is that of one of the worst teams Man U have put together in recent memory.

With over half a season gone, it is clear that Brighton are either standing still in the league or the very small amount of progression they are making won't be enough to get them into Europe next season.

Meanwhile, Caicedo, Cucurella, Grob and Trossard are still waiting on a report which could see Brighton being deducted 20 points.

So either this Government signed something that they had no intention of ever honouring, or they were too stupid to understand what they were agreeing (in law) to.

Liars or incompetents, you decide. I'm saying both!

Got to say, my money would be on the former.
They seem to make a habit of saying what people want to hear at the time without intention of actually backing it up with action.

Fair play. Showing more leadership here than the sack of shit on the opposite bench has in his entire life.

We all know this is only being re-investigated because of pressure from the government which is frankly ridiculous. If Durham issue a FPN here then it opens up the biggest can of worms you've ever seen.

Any competent strategy team games every scenario and I cant believe CCHQ think this is the best outcome

They've massively overplayed their hand hence the backtracking this morning and from Rees-Mogg last night

Lets see if the pressure to investigate from Daily Mail magically disappears now in favour of `Boris fights for low income families' etc

Good on him, puts forward what Johnson should have done, and maintains his integrity whilst the investigation is continuing.

Do you not think Johnson is likely to just say that he doesn't believe it to be worthy of resignation? Remember he's got the sympathy of the media

I suppose it’s done what they wanted though. They’ve just had an absolute kicking in the locals and no one is talking about it. I said the other day that the timing of this was no coincidence.

That is an absolute disaster for the tories

So either you have the most likely outcome and Starmer is cleared or get he gets FPN and resigns. Both are fucking awful for the Tories.

So stupid you'd think Grenners worked for CCHQ

I’m not sure he has much choice PVA, crazy as this whole situation is. Starmer called on Johnson and Sunak to resign on that one FPN, he’s backed himself into a corner in that respect.

Intentionally or not the statement also puts a bit of indirect pressure on Durham police ie if you give me a FPN I’m going to have to resign. Could be a sneaky move ! Like it !

As I’ve stated before I don’t think the FPN alone should be a resignation matter, appreciate others feel differently though. Agree that Starmer resigning would put massive pressure on Johnson to do the same though

Thats been their line as of last night apparently, rowing back on the whole thing.

Im betting right now Durham police are under some `persuasion' to write a `We think theres been an offence but no FPN will be issued' statement ala Cummings

The whole thing is so obviously telegraphed in advance (and by an alleged genius Lynton Crosby?!)

It would put pressure on him to resign yes, but there's no way he will. The man is utterly shameless and has zero integrity.

However it would likely result in enough letters to trigger a leadership contest!

Decent statement from Starmer.

(Click on the tweet to see the full thread)

The backstracking from Tory lickspittles today is quite something

Starmer's exit date 2022 are narrowing.

9/4 at some bookmakers
Still 12/1 at others.

Hardly surprising when he explicitly mentions the possibility however, of course some will lump some cash on.

Be fantastic if an MP was honest and just conceded that the rules by this point were confusing and illogical rather than just doubling down on them being broken, pre empt the public inquiry
