It's well known that they targeted student heavy areas but hey, keep picking the isolated to prove the trend. Liberals have always been prepared to shimmy after all.

And their loss of seats for being in said coalition kind of shows it weren't popular with the base they'd pulled up.

Approaching 500 seats lost for the Tories now.

No matter what Grendel says that is a total pasting.

The other train wreck, of course, was anything to do with Ann Lucas.

Less than the Greens I reckon.

Well, new seats added to their total.

The rather dreadful Angela Thornberry pretty much said on Five Live the same as that toe rag Khan - namely you can’t compare these events as Starmer only did it once anyway

Awesome so as long as the murderer isn’t a serial killer you can take the high ground?
If rules were broken I would expect Starmer to quit, just as Johnson should have but unsurprisingly didn't. But no-one cares about parties do they?

But there isn't the same equivalence, and not just in terms of the number of times it happened. The restrictions were totally different and more lax at the time of Starmer's incident.

And that is what the Tories are trying to do. Make the two incidents seem equivalent.

In your analogy it'd be like a serial killer claiming someone else should be given the same sentence as them because that person gave someone a bit of a slap.

Is it not the case that the Durham police have admitted that they in fact did not release this influenced voters? Staggering

Also as I’ve said Durham say they don’t take retrospective action against FPN offenders

In other words if Johnson ate his cake in Barnard Castle and was not caught at the time he’d have nothing but at worst a ticking off

I am getting the disturbing view the Met especially are playing politics and see labour as a much more preferable party than Patel and co

Disturbing times

God knows how you've come to that conclusion.

The same police force who did everything it could to not investigate Johnson and the Tories? The same force who wouldn't release details of who'd been fined in case it 'influenced voters'? That's exactly the point - voters should have the information to make an informed decision about who they're voting for. Anf the same force who are now looking into Starmer with seemingly much less to go on than when they steadfastly refused to investigate Johnson? And your worry is that they're Labour!

The English government terms will be clear - WTO hard border Visa requirements no currency all on day one

There is zero chance wales would want it ever and if Scotland opt for it at least 48 out of 100 wouldn’t - but hey pound gone that day, WTO that day - work in England? Get a visa or find a job in your promised land. No subsidies no money - sounds fun
Given who much our current govt got steamrollered in EU negotiations I wouldn't be so sure about dictating those hard terms.

I wouldn't have you as a political Nostradamus and we're closer to the break up of the Union than we've probably ever been. Scotland have had a reasonable appetite for a while and after the treatment post-independence referendum and voting to leave the EU, not to mention the utter shitshow in Westminster by a party they traditionally despise anyway. The results in NI show that the same things like Brexit have brought NI to a position I'd have considered totally impossible even 10 years ago. Then with Wales I think it's a matter of them waiting for one of the others to go, again with the Tory shitshow really grating on them as well.

Not that you should mind, as it'd work in your favour and give the Tories an even stronger hold in an independent England. Once again the Tories create a massive pile of shit and come up smelling of roses.

He has a point - look at those people in Hartlepool for example blaming Labour for the local facilities being decimated even though they were only constituency MP’s and not controlling council budgets.
You can’t reason with people that believe the bullshit pumped out verbatim.
It’s not all the public to be fair but they do seem to reside in the places Labour needs to win.

He said mud sticks. Fact is that isn't universally true.

More precisely it sticks to Labour councillors etc. who are hamstrung by Tory budget decisions while actual Tories with actual power can get away with repeatedly breaking their own rules without consequence.

It has stuck because the narrative has allowed it to stick. We may not have seen it nationally but that misinformation will have been spread locally and deliberately.
If the same happens nationally it will be difficult to shed - even if he is totally innocent.
This is the control and influence that exists through the media… they know exactly what they are doing.

Got several “left wing” people in this thread doing it. It’s not right wing media, both sides expect Labour to be perfect to be worth voting for.

Tories are the default and Labour have to be everything to everyone to be worth a shot.

... Oh.

On their homepage there are 37 stories before anything about the locals. And they describe it as a 'bruising' night, saying they lost 'far fewer seats than expected' and that Tory critics had been 'silenced'.

Shameless twats.

Also Labour did ok in Hartlepool? They held seats where they had lost councillors last year. Labour were never going to regain Hartlepool this time as the seats in play where the 2018 set that Labour won.

They’re not really ‘doing it’ are they - more validly pointing out that this could create a problem with a press and government full of grifters, liars and shysters.

Having been forced out of her job by a Labour mayor who is roundly despised by the rank and file officers, Cressida Dick had no choice but to mobilise the entire Met behind Operation Oust Big Dog in the hope of a Labour government.

When it comes to council elections the Labour candidates here knock on your door to insult you for not voting for them. Their sales pitch as candidates being ‘I’m a Corbynista’. For the general election, the sitting MP ignores his constituents. His party leader enjoys sneering and general smarminess.

Perhaps it isn’t always about demanding perfection from the party, just for the candidates and figureheads to not be pricks.
