Not entirely, but it's a significant part of it.

Are you saying that there's no correlation in the funding available from Central Goverment along with services being transferred from Central Government control to Local Government and a council's ability to function? Given more stuff to pay for and less money to pay for it.

If it were the other way round and this was a Tory council and a Labour govt you'd be the first to claim it was down to lack of funding.

the criticism is levied at the behaviour of the councillors - if we look at the pay dispute hasn’t a council like Plymouth agreed the pay hikes?

And if Coventry did it you’d be the first to moan about it.

Clearly this has happened across the last decade at least, but in the interest of balance a large council tax increase was permitted via central govt approval in the last couple of years.

I did consider saying that their other option is to massively hike up Council Tax, but then that's going to be spun negatively for local government as well.

It's not exactly a generous thing to offer is it:
"Hey, we're cutting the amount of money we give you and making you pay for more stuff, but we're letting you hike up the bills of the people that vote for you so you've no cause for complaint."

You just can't blame central Govt when part of the WMCA deal for devolution signed by CCC was to agree to abide by the spending review. They sold the people of Coventry down the river.

Here is one of the many councillors we should be saying goodbye to.

It was agreed to by LGA (Labour) as well as other groups.

Demsoc said a referendum was required. A referendum wasn't forthcoming.

Powers went up from local Government as well as down from central Government. Whichever council officer, the council used for advice in this matter to state a referendum wasn't needed, should simply be sacked on sight.

Oh, and Rishi Sunak:

I know how Will Smith felt about his wife being criticised, says Rishi Sunak

The chancellor speaks out over criticism of his wife, who owns shares in a firm operating in Russia.

I can understand your fury about you being questioned about some investments your wife owns (voluntarily) that go against your own governments position could be comparable to someone making fun of a medical condition that person has no control over.

What a snowflake. Boo hoo hoo. My wife has to take millions in dividends out of Russia financially supporting the Putin regime in the process. How dare people judge us for that.

I saw that Sunak was also upset with the OBR for 'overshadowing his spring statement' by releasing forecasts showing everything is fucked.

How dare they tell the truth about the state of the economy!

The more you think about his comments the more you despair. Who gives a fuck about whether he’s upset his wife gets a bit of flak for having £400m of shares. People are on the f’in breadline. What a wanker he is!

What's especially odd is that (for a Tory!) Johnson's actually pretty liberal on things like this and, practising what he preaches, he's ok with private lives being private and not really conforming to the norm.

Is Rees-Mogg whispering a little too much in his ear?

I’m happy there’s an issue around social spaces for women, including those who choose to identify as women and it needs a grown up discussion and some resolutions but ffs as big as getting the vote. Front page of a national newspaper. Not for me
