He’s one of only 800 people in the country with the ability to vote up or down on the laws that govern this country. For the avoidance of doubt, that makes him a political figure, whether he makes use of it or not.

And how many people within that establishment does he have access to who he can try to influence? Carrie doesn't have any position at all in the corridors of power but has supposedly heavily influenced policy because of her relationship with Boris. Just as the likes of Cummings et al have.

And if you're going to talk about him, please have the decency to spell his name right...

How many people has he influenced

It appears Sir Beer congratulated him on his Lords appointment. Has he has a beer with Sir beer?

And you don't think Johnson pulled a few strings and lent on a few people? MI6 had doubts about Lebedev (mind you, they had them about Johnson as well)

As for the second point:

So why do you think MI6 suddenly withdrew their concerns about him? Do you think the committee wouldn't have doubts about appointing someone that MI6 has flagged as a potential threat?

Besides, it goes way beyond his peerage. Johnson has been very lax on Russia, almost to the point of being an apologist at times in the past. Although he has other links to Russia, both financial and personal.

On the annexation of Crimea, he pretty much blamed the EU just to point score in the Brexit debate.
He said we should work with the Russian's in Syria to support Assad, despite them being untrustworthy.
He has attended parties etc with Lebedev without his security detail, giving the KGB officer's son a chance to influence him, not to mention the donations from Russian sources to his own campaigns and the Tories in general where Russian individuals have had the chance to spend time with him and undoubtedly forward their own agendas. Or do you think they really wanted to play tennis with the fat oaf?
He's given huge loopholes in his sanctions on Russian oligarchs so they have the opportunity to secure their wealth before they take effect but let's it look like he's taking tough action.

if even a fraction of that had been done by Corbyn (or anyone in Labour for that matter) you'd be labeling them a security risk and a Russian agent.

I’m not sure what else Grendull thinks rich people especially get close to politicians for if not for influence. What other reason is there? Maybe Lebedev wanted someone beating up? But then with his KGB connections he wouldn’t need Boris’ help, he’s no Darius Guppy.

Of course Grendel knows that. It's just that it's someone on his 'side' so he'll defend come what may. I asked him what other reason there might be for them paying to get close to politicians and he came back with nothing, so he knows the reason for it. bBt he can't be seen to be conceding that's the reason so unless I can provide video footage of the two openly plotting then it's all altruistic and 'nothing to see here'. Even then he'd probably argue it was a deep fake.

And of course if the tables were turned and it was a left wing politician, Labour especially, with these suspicious links and actions you can guarantee he'd be right on top of it and saying how it was clear they were in the pocket of Russia and were allowing them to influence and meddle in British politics.

im just amazed that This one rather well off chap who has a majority ownership in a newspaper most on here believe offers the most sensible views politically and seems to spend most of his time hanging out with luvvies like Stephen Fry (not a radical Tory) is suddenly a smoking gun akin to the Perfumo scandal
