Zawahi doing the rounds this morning going hard with the 'Johnson thought it was a work event' line.

And as ever with this scandal, he does it as reports come out that Johnson was warned it was a social event and not to go ahead with it, but ignored the warnings.

I know they're too far in now so it's too late, but why oh why do they keep lying about stuff when they know there are more details to come out, details than can prove them wrong?

Cos it helps their long-term career prospects, which is their real concern and end-game.

Yes, they'll look silly for a little bit but the public quickly forget and it's shown those in the party they will be loyal to a leader and so worthy of more senior positions.

According to Robert Peston there’s an email to back up Dominic Cummings version of events with regards to Boris knowing in advance that it was an organised party. Operation dead meat is ramping up.

Boris Johnson has "categorically" denied he was warned a drinks party in the No 10 garden risked breaking lockdown rules.
"Nobody warned me that it was against the rules," the prime minister said, adding: "I would have remembered that."

This, the can now build a gigafactory if they can actually find someone who wants to build a gigafactory

It's incredible that after all the corruption and piss taking that still only 20 think he shouldn't be in charge

Its hilarious, hes gone for the "no one told me/I didnt realise it wasn't the rules" to prove his innocence, but if that was true it just means he is so incompetent that he doesn't even understand his own simple rules.

We all knowing he is a compulsive lier.

It's not that though, it's picking the right time, and also some of them not wanting to move too fast, and commit political suicide.

At least one of our local MPs is clearly unimpressed, but won't come out and say so absolutely until the time is right.

Sounds like the Cabinet has been pissed for the majority of Johnson's tenure, that's half the problem.

He’s re digging his grave with his comments, how can he keep saying he doesn’t think rules were broken, even if essential business were open and had to work closely together, they were not allowed socials together at the end of that working day, the limits on numbers mixing and in what places were pretty clear to any average or in my case, a simple man.
Newer all time lows for politics but suspect more to come, what’s the point in Cummings saying he would swear under oath, he fucking lied last year so why would we believe some fake swearing of an oath would give greater integrity.

That has to be rebuilt with action, time and continued trusting deeds and also openly admitting the previous lies or misjudgements and rule breaking and laying yourself bare to that and taking the consequence, only then may redemption and trust have a chance of being restored.

neither of these plus others are doing that and irreparable damage for them long term

The regular occurrence of the speaker of the house lambasting a government minister for telling the world and their dog policy before telling the house contravening the ministerial code.

I honestly can’t remember this happening to any other sitting government. I’m sure it must have but it feels like it’s a weekly event these days. Just another example of no rules for them, rules are for the plebs.

Could it be Boris’ last PMQ’s tomorrow? Probably not but it sounds like it isn’t going to be easy being world king tomorrow.

Exactly, some need to be careful what they wish for. Johnson could just be too tarnished now but would’ve been better sitting tight until after locals and also used as leverage to get more support for red wall area

And at this moment most of them will lose their seats because of his current lack of appeal.

Agree but there’s not an election tomorrow and I honestly can’t see any of the current main contenders having an appeal in those seats. Would need someone leftfield…maybe they’ve got someone in mind but doubt it

That’s not to say they shouldn’t get rid but can’t see the rush from their perspective

I think it was always going to be a struggle for the new Red Wall Tories to keep their seats anyway.

It was a Brexit/anti-Corbyn vote for them.

Now that's all in the past, if their constituents now finally see Johnson for what he is, and the mood is clearly very hostile or they wouldn't be putting their letters in, then the MPs need to be seen backing their constituents and not the one rule for them London toffs.

There's a big dose of 'we told you so' to go with it. They were warned he's a useless, lying, sack of shit.

The problem is also that most of their MP’s are Boris sycophants and can’t make the connection between trying to level up their constituencies and keeping their jobs.

An 80 seat majority, his dream job that he waited his whole life for, and he's going to get binned off by the people he put in power all for the sake of some garden parties.

You love to see it

It’s all long gone, and people clearly had their reasons for disliking or not trusting Corbyn - but when you look at the cost of living crisis people are facing now, he’s the one guy that would have fought tooth and nail to do something for the ordinary people struggling. Boris and his government don’t give a fuck… and Starmer doesn’t really have any substantive ideas either.

Agree about Brexit/anti Corbyn being main drivers for red wall voters switching sides

To be fair to voters I don’t think anyone could forsee Covid or inflationary issues at the last election. Who knows what Corbyn would’ve done or how he would’ve handled everything. It will be interesting to see what the government does about cost of living, they’ve got to do something, certainly for the poorest/middle earners. I’d be surprised if there’s not announcements in the next couple of weeks

Looks like the hard man act backfired

Threatening to change boundaries to get your own MP’s voted out at the next GE as a threat. This is worse than we already know if they’re willing to use that threat. When I say this I mean the whole scandal. This is about desperately keeping Boris in until the next GE, they clearly don’t expect to win the next GE.
