Weak Starmer does not want to upset the left of the party. He needs to ideally keep both AR and RR in their positions so he has his scapegoats to use at a more appropriate time.

Zahawi set up off shore companies and avoided tax on tens of millions while threatening anyone who asked questions. To be clear about what you’re drawing a comparison to.

Nadhim Zahawi - the whole story

UPDATE: this was written on 19 January, and I haven’t updated it. We subsequently learned (thanks to the Guardian) that Zahawi had been charged a large penalty. And we now know, thanks to Sir Laurie…

yeah if Starmers tenure tells us anything it’s that he’s terrified of upsetting the left

Nobody, not even 'Finance Monthly', knows her net worth.

It's a pretty safe bet that it's not anywhere near £5m though

She earns £196k a year, why wouldn't she be able to afford a nice house?

I actually find it really weird that those who were so vociferous in calling out corruption are even attempting to defend, It's crazy.

So you believe all of the online polls and quote them here almost daily, but anything else that doesn't fit your agenda is dismissed. I'd like to say I'm surprised.

Yes I voted Conservative. I never claimed Boris wasn't dodgy and I don't care that he was. I don't care that Rayner is, as I'm certainly not a hypocrite. In fact you'll probably find hundreds of pages back on this thread me saying exactly that. I accept that those at the top in all party colours are dodgy. That title belongs to you being selective. What I do care about is her being all for the unions and all for shared wealth, having a go at the establishment and then being as corrupt as the rest of them. That's genuine hypocrisy for you from champagne socialists.

The left of the Labour Party / Greens believe the issue with public services are underfunded because millionaires/billionaires aren’t paying their fair share. Hence, she has called for tax raises on many policy areas and to clamp down on tax exemptions.

Following her public policy positions, surely you’d expect her to be fully willing to pay the full tax bill from a moral perspective. At every opportunity, Rayner unironically seeks to reduce her tax liabilities.

I knew she’d have been on record calling on a Tory minister or two to resign on taxation.

I’m sure Zahawi’s was only acting on his tax advisors bad guidance…

She has two houses put through some very complicated trust and despises people who have second houses - -oh and is the housing minister!

She has tried to get the best tax avoidance advice possible to limit her spend at the expense of the tax payer.

You said about working class people going to private schools? The Labour Party opposes this as it does second home ownership.

What is your view on Raynor - should she resign or are you OK with her stance?

My point was that Nick was saying before that working class people can put kids through private school on modest salaries, so why is he now surprised that someone earning six figures can afford a nice house.

As for Rayner I think her position is untenable, this won't go away any time soon.

She should be sacked and police investigation into text evasion. She has let party down big style.
However this is rife in wealthy Tory and Regorm MPs, so its hilarious seeing them get on their moral high horses.
A comprehensive review of all MPs should be undertaken by Government and they should eradicate all personal amd business tax loopholes, so that all MPs, businesses and people in UK pay correct tax, as we all do on here.
It's deeply harmful and unpatriotic to avoid paying proper tax especially amongst the top 10% of uk wealthy.
This to me is way bigger issue than small boats and flag flying.
The UK tax gap between what should be paid in tax and what is actually collected in tax is 40bn.
Also £570bn is held by UK residents in off shore tax havens!
We are a very wealthy country and the wealthy play the system.

I'm sure you can see the difference between a normal working class couple making sacrifices to send a kid to private school to somebody who's apparently suddenly worth over £4 million after being in the 6 figure job for a year and spending 800k on a second home.

Actual working class people aren't getting gifts of thousands in clothes either.

This isn't just labour either, wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them. It's even more random how much hypocrisy she shows though.

She isn't worth over £4m, it's just a totally made up number.

And she was on 75k in 2015, it's not hard to see how she might have a nice house is it?

If she has found to have evaded the correct stamp duty then this is a criminal offence.
She has admitted the amount was incorrect. It’s not normal for HMRC to accept mitigating circumstances where tax is involved.

Given how vocal she was in opposition about tax irregularities - she should at least have the nous to offer her resignation.

I'm not sure why some don't want to believe it. Houses are obviously not her only wealth. Every search engine and report shows her net worth as £4.7m, yet none can substantiate where it came from.

Sounds more like it.

You wouldn't expect someone of her position to be worth any less would you?

The £5m thing is nonsense clickbait to get people wound up, the same people who had no issue with Sunak being worth half a billion quid.

It's just a totally made up number Rob.

Someone or some website has made it up and others have copied. There are no 'reports' as you say on her net worth because no such thing exists.

Its like those salary websites that claim Tavares was on a higher wage than Wright or some shit

We know the rough value of her housing assets, so I'd love to know where the supposed other £4m comes from.

Tbf no issue with him or her having money, but he's not tried to hide it or pretend to be a socialist. We're hardly all in it together.
