Seriously? Literally yesterday you were saying if Labour didn’t win it it was proof Starmer should go. And I was explaining the long term trends to you.

Sorry your man lost though. Better luck next time.

Did I say that or support any of the candidates?

Great stuff. A decent MP wins, and this will annoy all the right people.

Jeremy Corbyn, Chris Williamson, Owen Jones, Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein, your boy took one hell of a beating.

It was a good victory… but your last sentence makes you sound a bit of a knob, so I’ll assume it was just poor satire.

Was fully expecting Labour to lose a big chunk of votes with Galloway standing but was also expecting Conservative gains, which doesn’t look to have happened. Maybe just maybe people are wising up to Boris and his new Tories and what a bunch of self serving, lying, hypocritical, cunts they are.

I’m a Labour member and the way that lot have been acting (throw in Bastani as well) has been fucking disgraceful. Jones cuddling up to a homophobe just because he didn’t like Starmer was sickening. They can all get in the bin, none of them are Labour. And yes Putin and Hussein are both connected to Galloway. The guy is a racist, homophobic c**t who supports genocidal maniacs and covers for authoritarian regimes and the lefts love affair with him because he might annoy Starmer is frankly disgusting.

They can all get in the bin.

I’m a Labour member too, but you’re being a knob putting Corbyn in that group. You’ve made it clear your thoughts on him, and he’s no longer leader, you’ve got a new leader you can tie yourself in knots defending.

The rest can get in the bin though totally agree.

Amazing how money can now be found to protect businesses that didn't bother to get the correct insurance to get through a pandemic.

A hat stand with a red rosette would have been more effective in defending cuts to local services than a lot of Labour councillors

Don’t know enough about candidates/local area to pass much comment but looking at the votes cast and previous polling there’s almost no doubt Hancocks behaviour followed by Johnson’s delayed/weak response (has rightly) cost the Tories the seat.

Good, as it tells the government that, to some extent at least, people are watching

edit - saying that might be a bit disrespectful to leadbeater though. Probably a decent candidate. Also Galloway was the disruptor so Tories would’ve only really won it by default anyway

After a couple of weeks banging on Labour had absolutely no chance, Starmer needs to go, etc. Instead of congratulating labour on a narrow but completely un expected win given the context, Nicky Campbell questioning this morning on 5 Live was all around how poor the margin was and labour didn't do very well, and starmer needs to go.

You can’t compare majority between GE and by-election because of the numbers of people voting. Labour’s victory was unexpected, and would suggest the new MP did an awful lot of work on the ground which is a credit to her.

8000 people voted for Galloway - they can’t all be racists and homophobes. Labour need to find out why some of their felt they had to take their vote elsewhere.

Galloway always picks up some votes wherever he runs, though. With more organisation, he could have been the left's Farage.

The Tories have cut central government funding going to local governments by 40% over 11 years.

How are local authorities supposed to grow a backbone and not implement cuts when they have physically been given 40% funding?

Sorry but Corbyn is in that group. He’s mates with all of that lot. His wife was writing about how Starmer had to go if he lost. Since he got kicked out the PLP for racism he’s shown his colours quite frankly.

You know I voted for him and backed him for most of his time as leader, but since then the guy has shown he’s not a Labour supporter just like Williamson, just like Jones. And if they aren’t with us they’re against us and IMO just useful idiots for the Tories.

But feel free to point out where Corbyn has disowned Galloway and supported Labour during this by election.

I’ll help you out, here’s his Twitter feed:

https://mobile.twitter.com/jeremycorbyn?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Where he manages to post about every cause on Earth but can’t bring himself to comment on the racism, misogyny and homophobia being perpetrated by Galloway. Because he wanted him to win to prove a point. That’s the great morals of the guy.

Im not on the right thanks.

It was shit in 2016 and it’s shit in 2021.

You’re either helping Labour win or you’re helping the Tories. And those I’ve mentioned have been more anti Labour than anti Tory the past couple of years.

But sure. Let’s pretend George Galloway is a lovely man for internal Labour point scoring reasons.

Indeed - it’s funny that Galloway probably helped Labour get elected in the end - he seems to want to go to court for some reason - he’s gone the full Trump these days

He probably galvanised support TBH. The Tories still should’ve won though. Where did the Kipper Independent votes go?

I think the opposite - he took away a fair bit of the muslim base, that part that is racist and homophobic.

He didn’t get kicked out of the PLP for racism - you’re talking shit there.
They literally had to lock Starmer up ‘fridge-style’ and he managed what a dozen or so tweets in support?
But you keep getting outraged about the former leader and how we should all unequivocally get behind the current leader regardless…

No but at by elections you have to have policies on everything and are held responsible for everything if you are Labour. This. Sad but true.

Remember these same people think more food banks is a great success for Tories. You just can't reason with people like that, they'll believe whatever they're told to believe by Dear Leader.

He quite literally did. He’s not only refusing to apologise for the racism under his watch but blaming it on da joos. He just has to take that back to get the whip back and he won’t.

And I don’t think you’ve read anything I’ve written if you think I’m saying support Starmer unconditionally. I’m saying there’s nothing better so get behind the party and don’t support racists and homophobes who cover for despicable regimes.

But you’re equating ‘the left’ with people like that and it’s not on. It seems your centrist dad ‘hot take’ is that the left are gutted that Labour held the seat…

I want Labour to win as much as you, but the party have to be reflective at this point on Batley (and Hartlepool too) and think about the direction. It’s not the time to crow and think everything is all dandy.

Not “the left” I’m on the left. The group of supposed left wing people like Jones, Corbyn, Galloway, et al who have acted exactly like the worst of the right since Corbyn resigned.

They aren’t “the left” they’re some left wing people.

Of course everything isn’t fine and dandy. We have serious demographic issues that will make winning elections very hard, Corbyn out rocket boosters under our loss of voters due to mismatching values and no one else in the party is willing to address that.

Im fucked if I know what the answer is, I don’t think anyone on the left does, but it sure as hell isn’t racism, homophobia, supporting dictators and being so liberal anyone outside the 15% most liberal is a bigot. That whole left wing media industrial complex can get in the bin. Just in it for the cash and glorious defeat and constant whinging about other factions, with no interest in improving people’s lives.

Starmer is white bread. He’s inoffensive and bland and until we figure out what the hell the lefts winning strategy is he’s as good as anyone else. The fact that Cooper (who is just Starmer in a dress) is by far the mos popular next candidate should tell you how silly pushing for him to go now is.
