I dont have time for Netflix, I work far too many hours

And Income as a measure of wealth is only relevant when compared with financial liabilities. (No of kids for 1 example)

This is something that could be interesting. There were murmurs from within the party that some felt Starmer should have taken a firmer line on those rebelling on the welfare bill, including removing the whip.

There's potential that becomes a riskier option in the future. May be a small possibility but there's still a possibility of someone making the switch to this new party.

Kinda hope it doesn't just fizzle out if for that reason alone, might make things a bit more interesting.

There’s also a lot of feeling on the backbenchers that Starmer has his favourites and the left wing of the party iced out. So naturally, why would they be allow themselves to be voting fodder? For an agenda they don’t believe in and knowing they’ll lose their seat at the next election.

In my view, Starmer and his team will bumble on till May 2026, probably end up ditching Reeves and/or McSweeney before then. They’ll get hammered in the elections and there will be a lot of pressure on him to potentially make way.

The authority of Starmer and Reeves is shot, they are in government but not in power.

You need to factor in NI and SFE repayments too. I maxed out my pension contributions to reduce my tax/SFE and NI.

My salary that is in that bracket would be taxed over 50%. 40% income tax, 15% NI and an additional 9% on the SFE. Many middle class professionals are being taxed close to 55-65% on relatively modest wages.

The ‘fiscal drag’ of freezing the tax band is a real accounting trick and it’s toxic. If the tax threshold is never going to moved, just scrap it and introduce a lower tax band.

Don't put that on here, people on here will just demand you get taxed more because you're wealthy and they love a bit of spite

If they can hold it together until the next election might be a bit more interest in Coventry South than normal. Hopefully we get some novelty candidates!

I'm not a higher rate tax payer, and pay the minimum into my pension at the moment as I can't afford more (the joys of having to pay a couple of grand a month for my Dads care, creating a nice big pile of debt) but even then by the time the various deductions are made you've lost over 25%.

My middle class life is a world away from that of my parents. As time goes by you can really feel the drag downwards.

Breaking news. Labour has a relationship with the unions.

She is not trying to enrich herself, family members or friends. She’s trying to achieve extra funding to the fire service, frankly a job all MP’s should be doing. Especially against the backdrop of austerity which cut funding to the fire service something like 14% in actual terms, any increases since lag behind inflation so are cuts in real terms and a report out last year found the majority of fire stations to be crumbling. It’s a catastrophe the state the fire service and who an MP is married to is irrelevant. She’s working in the public interest which is what she should be doing. Unless of course you’re immune to the effects of RTA’s, fires etc.

Exactly, the post-WW2 welfare state is just not viable anymore. It certainly isn’t being helped by low income mass migration either (separate issue).

Reform fighting hard on the pressing issues in Warwickshire

Well, it is a pressing issue. It’s a simple request that’s being denied and it’s a foreshadowing of what’s to come if they ever formed a government.

The language of it being a ‘coup d'état’ is a bit hyperbolic from Zia Yusuf. What right does this unelected CEO have?

Frankly, the idea you need a vote to decide on this is rather silly. After all, did they have a vote to fly the Ukraine or pride flags in the first place? Probably not.

Using that logic, why not just accept the request? Let Reform win their ‘silly game’ rather than refusing and letting them play the victim to energise their supporters.

I happen to agree that government buildings should only fly the flags of the UK and the county council flags.

because showing support for marginalised people is a positive thing and calling bullsh*t on the nationalist playbook is important. What's the argument for flying national or regional flags? Are we worried people will forget which country or city they're in without them?

Just had a look into the flag story. What a load of performative nonsense and complete waste of everyone's time. The flag gets removed at the end of June anyway.

But in anycase if they wanted the flag removed there is a protocol to follow, its not for one person to dicate. Certainly not someone from Reform who don't have overall control of the council.

Although there is some comedy value in Farage and Yusuf complaining about the actions of unelected officials when neither of them are elected in Warwick, or in Yusuf's case elected anywhere

Let’s flip the script, if a left leaning council requesting the flying of the pride flag and this request was rejected by an unelected bureaucrat, would you be ok with that?

After all, who gives a shit about flags?

There’s only conflict because the council CEO refused the request. There would be no ‘culture war’ if there wasn’t a song and dance about the refusal.

Again, if it’s just ‘fucking flags’, then accept the request and move on. The refusal only energises Reform supporters and let their leadership claim they’re being undermined by unelected forces.

because answering questions ain't your thing?

If a request to put a flag like that up was knocked back, I'd wonder why, as it takes a few mins and is a harmless gesture of support. Defending dog whistle sh*te from Reform which they're all over as it's easier than, you know, doing something, is a bit weird.

If they're so hot on unelected people making decisions maybe they can start with the Lords and work down instead of flapping about a CEO at a council saying 'FFS it's coming down in two days anyway you 18 year-old speccy knob!' to get clicks.

Hilarious, are you seriously suggesting she is trying to make money out of being married to a fireperson union rep and him getting a small salary increase? Could it not be she sees it as a vital role and knows more about the job and risks associated with it than perhaps you and I do?
At least you Zarah and Jeremy Corbs have a lot in common, a total dislike for Starmer.

I mean, yes, if they just randomly went and demanded it without using the proper process I'm sure most people would be perfectly OK with it being refused.

I don't, and I'm sure many other are the same, have the first clue what flag Coventry Council is flying today. It really doesn't impact my life in the slightest and unless they suddenly decided to throw up a swastika or something similar I really couldn't give a shit.
