Ahh. Liz Truss. A trade Secretary so bad she come up with a trade deal so bad we didn’t celebrate it while Australia got the bunting out and belly laughed while hanging it up in disbelief that they’ve got the deal they did so easily.

I feel quite confident in saying that Mr Starmer would have done a better job of COVID than the present incumbent

same applies, my opinion of Starmer is well known, being better than him doesn't mean Johnson is up to the job.

A man with a fairly distinguished legal career and the ability to soundly judge evidence versus a man who hides in fridges and tells jokes to avoid upsetting anyone. Yeah I'm pretty confident it would've turned out better.

Though as usual you conflate my unhappiness with how things are with an expectation that it will change for the better. I have openly said I don't see Labour ever getting back in government, a heavy defeat on Thursday is just one more step towards that.

Is he? Or just not been under enough of a spotlight to be proven he'd not yet? Last budget was hardly heralded as a masterstroke.

TBF to him I think he's probably more competent than most of the rest, but it's like being the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind.

If it weren't for Johnson I'd agree. In it for the prestige.

All you've got to do was look at his resignation. just caused the biggest upheaval in British law in a generation and he just swanned off going 'do de do de do'. Couldn't give the slightest shit. At least May you could hear her disappointment.

Seem to remember someone saying his main thought when he took over seemed to be which room in Downing St he could shag Samantha in next.

Because they don't have to put up with the twat everyday! If he took over France they'd probably consider bringing back the guillotine within a few weeks to do away with him.

I liked Boris when he was an unimportant jokey figure without power. Once he started getting it the joke very soon wore thin.

He's a man who is used to listening to expert advice and making decisions based on it. His whole career has been based on the rule of law. Johnson is based on whatever makes him popular.

I genuinely doubt Starmer would have ignored the forewarning Johnson did, nor missed the Cobra meetings, nor would he have kept India off the red list just to appease someone for a trade deal.

He might be a personality vaccuum but he's WAY more professional in how he goes about things than Johnson could ever hope to be. I'd even go as far to say Starmer being lazy would still be more professional and make better decisions than Johnson.

You cant debate in an echo chamber especially one that’s in a minority in the country

let’s look at some of the excellent debates on here

The Tory cabinet should be arrested and charged with killing people

The Queen is a stupid grey haired old woman who should stop the evil Tories

Tories don’t like brown people (odd as it’s the only party that’s employed brown people in big cabinet jobs)

The media are owned by the Tories

The country is no better than North Korea

The country is brainwashing its stupid public (excluding the amazingly intelligent people on SBT politic threads of course well as long as they are part of the dead Labour loser club and support the hugely well thought out ideas from brain dead gimps on Twitter )

Anyone with any sense should move to the poverty hell hole of Wales or The national socialist Scotland.

Most people are rejecting capitalism

Meanwhile in the real world outside this absurd bubble Labour are derided and ridiculed and in all probability will make history on Thursday

I get really annoyed at govt of all persuasions when the thing they concentrate is on investigating the leak.

The important thing is not that a person in a position of power has done something wrong, but that someone else has done something so the public (the people who they're supposed to be serving) finds out about it.

Fucking pisses me off no end.

Even more so if what other MPs have said is true and government offices don't have CCTV installed.

Some self proclaimed experts have been looking at pictures of the office the footage was from and concluded it was hidden in a smoke detector but we may well be in tin foil hat territory there.

To be fair to Hancock even he isn't stupid enough to be making out with anyone right in front of a legit cctv camera.

Fair point.

But it still seems that when such behaviour is reported the problem the party see isn't the behaviour but the fact people found out about it. The wrong-doer often gets left off or given a slap on the wrist to appease the public, the person who exposed the wrong-doing gets hammered.

It could potentially be a security risk if it were hacked, but at the same time using government arguments on things like CCTV in public places it provides security and peace of mind, reducing incidents as people are wary of being watched.

Have to admit when I first saw the footage it came across like a hidden camera show type thing. Also if it were 'placed' it seems odd to have it focused on the doorway rather than the desk if you're trying to catch out nefarious meetings, sexual or otherwise.

Mind you, it could've taken ages to get any evidence and it was a matter of enough time and they'd get some or someone knew about this affair and that it was common for them to have a clinch by the door.
