Almost warming to the man. Clearly emboldened by his close relationship with the Trump Government.

How many civil servants need to be fired for you to be won over? 250,000?

Yeah it’s basically undoing the Lansley reforms from 2012 everyone agreed were a disaster right?

My ex wasn't my ex at that point and was working in the NHS and disaster would be putting it lightly.

Problem is when they did the 'not a top down reorganisation' what actually happened was those at the top were told to cut budgets and that never results in the people at the top volunteering to leave so a lot of front line workers were lost while the improvements promised, in areas such as care never materialised.

How easy it is to undo all that I'm not sure.

I dunno man, I was knee deep in nappies but I seem to recall it being bad and if this is undoing that then it’s good?

Not that it matters whatsoever, but I was a student working at Cambridge Waitrose on the weekends in 2012. He used to come into the store quite often and was frequently met with angry shoppers having a pop at him.

Is it? It's just bringing some control back into the department, not changing anything structurally. It was announced in such a strange way, feels a bit on the hoof.

Announcement is very weird. Almost like a DOGE twist in a country that hates Musk. Very strange.

Thousands are going to be made redundant apparently and the projected savings seem fairly minimal

About time NHS england got scrapped. If it were a private company they would have been gotten rid of years ago.

It sounds a good idea in theory, but scrapping it and handing it to the village idiots to run doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

It's not even the kind of decision you'd expect a Labour government to make!

It's certainly going to be interesting to see it take shape, it definitely needed reform, so I'll be watching it take place and I hope for all our sakes that it works out well.

If you don’t want politicians accountable for public services I’m not sure what you do want them to do.

It'll be interesting to see if there is any legislation that makes the SOS responsible for the provision of the health service (rather than facilitating it). Also wonder what will happen to the local commissioning entities (integrated care boards), they are established by NHSE.

Assume it means getting Oreos off the shelf and mandating that only Custard Creams, Bourbons and Digestives are allowed. Maybe Oreos are allowed but with massive tariffs.
