Yeah that’s what these were. Open shared sinks and stuff and lockable doors, which the boys frequently broke open to harass the girls apparently.

Even though it clearly isn't the union's only objective, trans rights does get a disproportionate amount of airtime I think.

The peeve I had with my union wasn’t that but an obsession with the Gaza conflict that frankly has very little to do with UK education

It’s like when local councils pass motions of Gaza or Ukraine or something, all very weird and I suppose makes activist members feel like they’re doing something that impacts their Twitter feed rather than boring constituents.

It’s a disgrace that any school should have unisex - talk about safeguarding

I would always get strange looks when I voted against motions calling on the union to pay for expeditions to Gaza or refugee camps. My view was always that members’ subs should be used for causes directly impacting on the membership ie school teachers. Not a popular stance but one most members in my school supported

Same with our office. I always piss on the seat to assert my male dominance.

Badenoch going after her voter base. At least I assume she’s talking about pensioner benefits here as by far the biggest welfare cost.

Meant to post words to this effect after that Brewdog whopper was making noises last week.

Waste. Fucking waste. The sign of businesspeople (and now, seemingly, politicians) with a fundamental misunderstanding of macroeconomics getting involved. I think back to the pre-pandemic reports suggesting we weren’t adequately prepared for what eventually came to pass. Probably “waste”.

It makes people think we’re just chucking money in the bin and not you know employing people and keeping them off the bread line.

The right never changes. This like DOGE is all about making room for tax cuts for the wealthiest. That’s literally it. But somehow they’re deserving and pensioners and the disabled aren’t

All money spent "in the public sector" is actually money paid to the private sector.

I was looking at US median salary and average health insurance payments last week. Their combined income tax and health insurance was a greater share of their pay than tax and NI is for somebody on an median salary in the UK.

US median wage $66k, average health insurance premium is $8k on top of income tax of €15k roughly. UK median wage £37k on which tax and National Insurance is £7k without any pension contribution, ie tax and NI would be even lower for somebody paying into a pension.

Other thing I meant to comment on. Obviously the more you earn in the US, the better off you are proportionally (given the health aspect is a ‘fixed’ cost as opposed to salary-linked). I wonder why some are so keen to move towards that model, then.

I mean it isn’t disgraceful, but they are not defined as unisex, just single individual use. There is lots of evidence that floor to ceiling cubicles and open plan sinks reduces bullying significantly.

Where it goes wrong is where problems are not dealt with properly - a school that doesn’t deal with problems properly is likely failing it’s safeguarding responsibilities anyway.

Yeah no. Unless they reduce bullying by forcing half the girls to not go to the toilet in school.

Would be interested to see your sources for this “lots of evidence”. A quick google doesn’t turn anything up.

Individual cubicles from floor to ceiling with sinks etc in are probably going to be the norm in future, but at a school you could see it still being a problem. God knows what some of the boys might get up to in a mixed cubicle.

As for the boys breaking down the doors, I hope the school dealt with it severley. Instant suspension and if they do it again put it in the hands of the police as a sex offence. Might just shock the little scrotes to not harass girls.

Agree entirely. Always amazes me that so many seemingly intelligent people seem to miss the fact that getting rid of staff in the public sector is nothing like doing it in private.

Private sector it's a cost reduction as the people are no longer your problem. Public sector they very much are in some form of another with welfare, physical and metnal health provision due to economic stresses as well as increase in criminal activity.

Just a stupid thing to do in a lot of cases.

I want to agree, but how about we keep the 2 sets of toilets we've managed in schools with forever, you know one for each real gender! Crazy idea I know.

Fact: older people are wealthier. Also fact: averages aren’t individuals.

Distribution of individual total wealth by characteristic in Great Britain - Office for National Statistics

Individual-level results from the seventh round of the Wealth and Assets Survey covering the period April 2018 to March 2020.
www.ons.gov.uk

Weird stat from this: bisexual people are less wealthy than heterosexual people. I wonder why

People with a degree have a mean wealth twice that of people with no qualifications, who - in turn - have a mean wealth which is higher than those having “other or unknown qualification”. I wonder why that should be?

This is a fascinating publication.

Never worked / long term unemployed have an average wealth of £100,000!

How have they managed that?
