Exactly. Theres 9.3 million people between the ages of 16 and 64 who are classed as economically inactive, compared to 1.6 million who are unemployed

Im not sure of the amount that are on benefits out of that total figure, however, even if you get 10% of the 7.7m not classed as unemployed back into work that’s another 770k employed

Was talking on BlueSky last night with someone ranting about how Starmer is going to lose the next GE, their username was Kier Sturmer and they had an edited pic of Starmer as an avatar. I suggested they might be a bit obsessed “what do you mean?” They said.

He’s absolutely deranged a few by winning the election. Including a few in this thread. Everything is proof he’s an evil Tory/evil Communist. He’s just a middle of the road centre left politician guys.

I just reply to you and FP ranting about him as if he’s Hitler Mk2. I’d probably be in the black segment right now but also realise where he started from but you’d count me as anti Starmer by that.

There is no way on this planet I could ever count you as anti-Starmer. He can literally do no wrong in your eyes.

Apparently Reeves has $5bn of bitcoin seized as proceed of crime available to her. More than raised by stopping WFA, vat in private schools and farms IHT - combined. Looking forward immensely to how the economic genius of a chancellor uses it.

The point Is his critics all are adamant he’s doing a terrible job and those who you see as super pro Starmer mostly say he’s doing OK/too early to tell.

Truss was an unprecedented disaster. Starmer has just been average. I think probably end of his term is a fair point to judge. He’s not going anywhere beforehand and isn’t promising any quick fixes, in fact quite the opposite. So he’s got a mandate even if it upsets people on here.

If you’re being serious about this, a one off windfall isn’t the same as cutting something we pay every year in perpetuity firstly. Secondly you can’t sell off 5bn in one go or you’ll tank the price.

Im not sure in practice what’ll happen.

This is just straight up Toryism. Yes ordinary member of the public, we know you're skint but instead of doing anything about that, we'll exaggerate the extent of benefit fraud and have a good old crackdown. It won't help you but it'll make us look tough.

Yes not hating Starmer is Toryism. Everything is Toryism.

(Not constantly campaigning against the only party that can beat the Tories though, that’s left wing or something)

Gen Z getting brainwashed by TikTok and X.

FFS.

Could they be even worse than boomers?

Most young people are in favour of turning the UK into a dictatorship, according to a “deeply worrying” study, which has revealed an acceptance of authoritarianism and radicalism among Generation Z.

Fifty-two per cent of Gen Z — people aged between 13 and 27 — said they thought “the UK would be a better place if a strong leader was in charge who does not have to bother with parliament and elections”.

Thirty-three per cent suggested the UK would be better off “if the army was in charge”.

Forty-seven per cent agreed that “the entire way our society is organised must be radically changed through revolution” — compared with 33 per cent of 45 to 65-year-olds.

It's hardly surprising that a generation that has grown up in a period of declining living standards and no real wage growth might think like this. It is more likely that it just translates to lower and lower turnouts for elections though, as recently demonstrated.

Half of them are barely old enough to vote!

I’m not sure why wage stagnation across the board would cause Gen Z to like dictators and trad gender roles but not the people most likely to be paying bills.

Not left wing enough.

But of course in this thread “left wing” means not taxing the wealthy and parroting Tory attack lines so

Here she is socking it to the wealthy

Rachel Reeves to soften non-dom tax changes

It comes after critics warned the plans could prompt wealthy people to leave the UK.

To be fair, at this moment he's likely to be right. Despite the majority it was in reality an extremely fragile one that could easily be swung the other way. It relied very heavily on Tories out more than Labour in, and Reform also helped them in some areas by taking Tory votes.

Why do you think Starmer would win a GE right now? The policies he's putting through are not appealing to left wing voters, and those that are right wing would just say if we're going down that route the Tories would do it better. Neither does he have a personality to pull people along with him.

I genuinely can't see enough people being happy with either him or his policies to win the next GE as it stands today.

Mostly because all the polling says he will. The Tories are in disarray and Reform have a pretty hard cap and their vote isn’t concentrated like the established parties.

But overall it’s four years from an election. No one has any idea and anyone who says they do is kidding themselves. Starmer could get caught sucking donkey dick or save a disabled kid from drowning, there could be war, or a pandemic, or a million other things. People have forgotten this because we’ve had five years of politics on fast forward where it’s scandal after scandal and election after election and have gone a bit mad about every slight shift in polling.

He’s doing about how I’d expect an incumbent government to do, despite the hysteria.

It’s not though. If my aunt has balls she’d be my uncle. That’s the point. Looking at polling four years from an election is beyond pointless. Agree with it or not Starmers strategy was to front load bad news knowing people won’t be thinking about WFA or farm tax in four years because that’s how politics works. Constantly going on about how there’s been a load of bad news isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Whether the next bit works or not is a fair question but it’s still a question.

And if there was an election right now Labour would still be in government. That’s what the polling says.
