Now you see I knew someone would say that which is interestingly racist in itself.
@shmmeee always refers to brown people, never black people. Which seems a bit racist to pick one ethnic minority over another.

I read the mail...sports section down the tube .Oliver Holt is too much politics imo.
The one thing I truly enjoy is Quentin Letts Westminster column. He writes most days now ,as you probably know, his insight into Parliament personalities is illuminating & always hilarious.
Hitchens pops up now & again but he has lost the plot with his obsession for a Lucy Letby re-trial.
Andrew Neil Saturday always worth a read : economically he has the current government as "na na na na fkin useless". Boris I tend to skip.

What are you talking about? Kemi Badenoch is a black woman. It's not racist for me or anyone to say that - you could do with a day or three off.

Black people aren’t literally black though so I use brown as a generic non white descriptor sometimes.

Quentin Letts is hilarious.

Andrew Neil is a proper political journalist who really does give politicians a run for their (should that be our) money. I darent use him as a source though, far too good at his job to be anything but a rubbish source according ro the imperilled labour supporters on here.

Personally not convinced the landslide was down to a detailed study of Reeves economic plans, for me it was more a 'get them out' result. Would say we'll see next time round but Badenoch seems intent on making them even less popular.

I mean all elections are to some extent. But people wanted them out in 2017 and 2019 and Labour lost.

It’s really not some out there idea that in order to win elections parties have to place themselves closer to the median voter than their base.

Thats how I feel. Whites aren’t literally white either. My comment about Badenoch was intended to tees out that explanation. Or a bit of a trap that someone else fell in to giving you the opportunity to explain your view under no duress.

Whatever the descriptor. Hating brown people doesn’t mean you can’t also have black people. The actual point was that all political parties move away from their base and towards the median voter. Perhaps wokeness is a better word for what the Tories have to fake.

The most unpopular Tory government in recorded history and Labour squeezed around a third of the vote.

An electoral landslide but far from it in the popular vote. Reeves and Starmer can keep wanking over shaving £5.50 off the deficit, as happened in the US it won’t help them at the next GE against a right wing charlatan

The popular vote means nothing. Not understanding this was exactly what Corbyn got wrong. You play the game you’re in not the one you wish you were in. Strategy would be entirely different under a different system.

I've always soaked oats overnights when cooking porridge and discovered them by accident after being too lazy to bother cooking them. Love them in the summer.

Giving kids from families that can’t afford it a healthy nutritious breakfast, is great and a good use of cash

Giving all kids whether they need it or not, a substandard breakfast, not so good

I’ve seen what hospitals give patients recovering from illness and medical procedures to eat, so unfortunately I dont hold out much hope.

The point is that Labour attracted more votes than Reeves, and that was in response to the "she does it to win elections" stuff. She's been the beneficiary of the Tory vote splitting to Reform, whereas the 2019 election was won by a broadly pro-Brexit cohort of voters unifying with the Tories. Tory + Reform got just under 11m compared with 14.5m for Tory + Brexit party in 2019.

It's called the popular vote for a reason. FPTP is not a great representative of it.

We have a stonking majority because of the system which makes it possible to achieve it when 7 out of 10 don’t want it. It’s pretty obvious you actually have zero understanding or belief in any political ideology. It’s just vibes and follow what you perceive is the in crowd of the day.

Fair enough. Then you’ll have to accept political reality that piling up votes in safe seats doesn’t win elections.
