Universal social care and childcare would be fantastic, but good luck getting people in this country to accept doing what’s needed to make them reality. Both would be transformative policies

Social care is the biggie. Hugely expensive though.

One day you’ll make the link between Corbyn getting roundly rejected for promising spending like there’s no tomorrow and Reeves getting picked as chancellor. Today is clearly not that day.

That’s how I have felt about it. I’m in a minority on here, unsurprisingly. But not every source is “dodgy”. I have even used Labour Lines as a source, despite me probably thinking that, in bias terms, that’s as dodgy as fuck. I do try to cross reference / triangulate. I do recognise that the Mail will have a stance. Presumably if they make things up, they will get challenged.

I think a fundamental problem here is that committed Labour supporters can see it all going tits up and are embarrassed and angry about it, and would shoot the messenger (me) whatever the source. They are saying I am inventing stuff to get angry about and then defend, say Starmer, with thoughtless dogmatic propoganda.

I am deeply pissed off about the constant verbal attacks on boomers / pensioners which is ageism and, I would say, a hate crime. Perhaps @Nick and other moderators should take some action on such posts.

So institutionalised anti semitism had nothing to do with it?

Relevance. The lady in the second version clearly feels sexually harassed by “Labour’s” physical stance. Definitely more invasion of personal space.

Its not what they are saying, it’s the way they are saying it.

Who is inventing stuff now?

Just a meme bro. You have to admit if Starmer had announced the same thing you’d be in here being apoplectic right now.

Just aware of what it takes to get elected and what the general public worry about when thinking of voting Labour. You can say she isn’t popular but her approach won a landslide sooo…

Fewer firstly. And secondly so what? 2019 was a disaster for Labour. The aim of politicians is to get elected. Labour won a landslide. If we had a different electoral system a different strategy would be valid but we don’t so it’s not.

Better than losing both. And four years is a long time in politics. At this point in 2015 Milliband was ahead.

I wonder whether she has also written along similar lines to Starmer, Reeves and others who either don’t answer questions asked, or fail to appear at the House of Commons dispatch box when required ( e,g they have buggered off to China).

Most people had planned for their retirement, only to have the goal posts moved by various governments. Any Tory policy not reversed by subsequent Labour government so Labour not entirely innocents.

From what I've been hearing Labour are about to make massive cuts to benefits to pay for their hare brained carbon capture schemes (etc., etc.) because the budget numbers are completely fucked up.

LOL, do you really think that was the reason. Same deal with Truss, they weren't going to play ball with whoever really pulls the strings. And before you ask or imply I am promoting a conspiracy theory, I don't know, well above my pay grade as they say.

There’s not. Labour will not be elected promising MMT style economics right now. Every time voters are polled their concern is about overspending. Similarly the Tories are nasty and have to pretend to care about brown people and the environment (or did until recently).

That doesn’t mean people like cuts and tax rises when they happen.

They were elected in a landslide back in July. Yet the household economics stuff continues, or actually gets worse.

As you have just attempted.

This government must be losing a lot of arguments, they are constantly deflecting.

How long before they wake up and smell the coffee we can no longer afford?

Personally not convinced the landslide was down to a detailed study of Reeves economic plans, for me it was more a 'get them out' result. Would say we'll see next time round but Badenoch seems intent on making them even less popular.

Not the hardest or least enjoyable task Badenoch will ever have, she is getting a lot of help from their inherent ineptitude and lack of competence.

I read the mail...sports section down the tube .Oliver Holt is too much politics imo.
The one thing I truly enjoy is Quentin Letts Westminster column. He writes most days now ,as you probably know, his insight into Parliament personalities is illuminating & always hilarious.
Hitchens pops up now & again but he has lost the plot with his obsession for a Lucy Letby re-trial.
Andrew Neil Saturday always worth a read : economically he has the current government as "na na na na fkin useless". Boris I tend to skip.

Us boomers ,we have had a wonderful life though haven't we ?
What a time to be born , I thank my lucky stars.
We nearly had it all !!
