An interesting approach. If he carries on with his moronic monotone sound bite we may see how good he is at defending himself in a libel court. If she won, would that mean he has lied to parliament? Would need to be another leadership contest then.

Surely even Truss isn't dumb enough to want to go to court and have to make an argument they didn't crash the economy.

It’s more the fact she’s claiming it lost her her seat. It’s impossible to say she crashed the economy - the impact is not quantifiable

Makes you wonder what the fuck was happening before, was everyone sat around twiddling their thumbs?
Some 16,400 people with no right to be in the UK have been removed since the election - the highest figure since 2018.

Some 4,390 were enforced returns - a 24% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official data.

And the Home Office said some 2,580 foreign criminals had been removed - a 23% increase on last year.

Then Gordon Brown should sue the Conservatives for their claim that Labour crashed the economy in 2010. Which George Osborne later admitted was bollocks.

I don’t think anyone can sue anyone. A crashed economy is one with mega interest rates and depression with hyper inflation. None in reality happened.

Well, she has already made the argument and Starmer’s spokesperson hasn’t directly contradicted it, instead focussing on the impact the market reaction had in household budgets.

There is a definition of recession or crashing the economy which wasn’t met. Ergo, she didn’t crash the economy.

Given current comic economic performance, will Starmer really want to extended that definition?
Methinks not!

Surely Truss could sue Starmer for libellous and false statements made outside the House of Commons. Given that, as you state, none of it actually happened.

He has constantly said there is a £22 billion black hole which isn’t true.

Her main contention seems it made her lose her seat. That’s impossible to actually prove.

John Major trashed the economy on Black Wednesday as he was an EU worshipping idiot but the consequences of the actions he was then forced to take meant in 1997 we were experiencing 5% growth. The mud stuck and out he went.

There’s exemptions for political speech. If people can start suing politicians for rhetoric half the right wing MPs would be in serious shit.

TBH with you it's stupid to say that Truss "crashed the economy" when the reality is that before that the economy wasn't really working anyway, but that'd take some politicians willing to create some real life meaning to a successful economy which are not just abstract measures like 'growth'.

Is it consistentl? I thought their opening gambit was £44bn. On that basis he has clearly lied to parliament, as has Reeves and other ministers, and they should be investigated by whichever senior civil servant is due to be appointed Reform‘s or Conservative’s next chief of staff and stripped of their ministerial portfolios and donated clothes and spectacles.

That confident that an ex DPP is still owed favours by the legal system? Would perhaps explain the outcome of beer and currygate plus Rayner‘s unusual living arrangement investigation.

What did you say about protection of privilege? Comes in many forms in my view.

She hasn’t got a case. She’s not even written the cease and desist letter properly. If you’re hanging your hat on Liz Truss being a political genius I’ve got some bad news for you.

Labour must be quaking in their boots - another few days of national discourse about Liz Truss’ economic track record will see swing voters returning to the Tory fold in their droves.

It really does seem like it was the “wets” that took the Tories famous political nous with them. Between this and the constant “hey guys remember Nigel Farage and how he gives you the full fat version?” From Badenoch (Bad Enoch indeed), it’s amazing how bad they are at politics these days.

This isn’t about anyone being a political genius, which Starmer equally clearly isn’t.

This is about someone making something up, spreading it as if it was undeniable fact and damaging someone’s reputation, potentially contributing to the loss of their seat as an MP. I hope she does sue, wins and that it acts as a marker to politicians that they don’t have carte balance to spout a load of lies.

Can you imagine a world where politicians were open, honest and answered questions they wer asked rather than the ones that they had prepared for.

We would be living in a world where you could buy Kentucky Fried Spicy Pork Wings mind yo, but that wouldn’t necessarily be too bad. Unless the porcine bastards were taking a rest on your guttering.

Similar with Labour im afraid.

Really quite a stretch to go from Badenoch to Bad Enoch in political terms. It’s quite bad taste really. Shame on you.

Yes a world where wealthy ex-politicians can sue people for expressing opinions on their career failings seems like a much more fair and democratic society.

You think it’s made up. There’s no evidence either way. That’s politics. Labour didn’t crash the economy in 2008 but the Tories dined out on that for 14 years.

It’s not is it? She’s using the exact same rhetoric.

And it’s not similar with Labour because Labour have never had a reputation for being ruthlessly politically effective.

You’re just saying stuff now.
