bit of a tangent, but it appears to me that the whole junior doctor/Registrar/GP/consultant pay & pension structure needs reform.....

Seems mad to me that a 25 year old Junior Doctor is struggling to make ends meet whilst doing shed loads of hours....then roll on a few career years & we're having to adjust the pension tax rules to try & ensure all the middle-aged consultants don't decide to spend 4 days a week on the golf course or bin it off completely & retire at 50....... seems a bit fucked up to me....

It was the lifetime allowance and its punitive and unforeseen consequences that was the problem, I never really understood why it made sense, if people have a higher pension they will get taxed on it.

Junior doctors do nothing like the hours they used to - WTD saw to that and not unreasonably so.

Just seems unbalanced to me.... we struggle to retain junior doctors because they don't earn enough & we struggle to retain consultants because they earn too much.....

Could not agree more with this. When I look at the amount I'm charged every week for my Dad and then the lack of maintenance at the care home, the budget for meals, the pay to staff etc it doesn't even come close to making any sense.

We all know there's people at the top making huge amounts of money while providing the absolute minimum level of service they can get away with, and that level is very low as the desperate shortage of places in care homes, especially for those with complex care needs (ie: the less profitable old people), means that even when inspections show services failing to meet minimum standards very little happens.

Yes, the home that my gran is in charges £1,600p/w or thereabouts. Anecdotally I understand the budget per individual for food is £20p/w. She now weighs around 4 stone having been given the choice of “one sandwich or two” at some meals - the sandwiches being the little triangles you get on a buffet. The only shareholder took a dividend of £10m the other year.

So, just let anybody in and let them commit any crime they want, but so what, right? That's a pretty alarming answer.

It's working great for the whole of Europe at the moment I suppose, and there absolutely isn't a rise in right wing politics going on whatsoever as a result of it. You are so blinded in your own politics that I don't know why you bother coming on here. It isn't like you are going to listen to anyone else's opinion or debate properly is it? Vote your way, or no way. That's the only answer. Even if it means coming out with ridiculous posts like the one above to support it.

The "right" only got about 33% in France and their "massive gains" in Germany saw them them get half the votes of the CDU. While Meloni in Italy only got 20 something % of the vote and The Scandi far right parties crumbled.

If you want to talk about Europe let is keep it factual.

Sounds very familiar. Where my Dad is charge even more but breakfast is a slice of the cheapest white toast you could possibly find. Lunch makes hospital / school dinners look luxurious and the evening meal is a sandwich.

Zero activities take place, and when they do its volunteers coming in to run them.

They paid out a dividend of £1.7m.

Why can't immigration be as simple as "If you want to come and graft, crack on, what can / will you do?", "If you don't, have fun in Rwanda"

Maybe sneak a few lazy brits on the flight too who don't want to work?

I thought you said you didn't care? You've got yourself rattled again.

If you want to keep things factual, perhaps stop looking at the number 33 and open your eyes to firstly what that actually means, and secondly what's going on everywhere else. The right have seen growth in Netherlands (Wilders won the election - guess you missed it), The AFD in Germany are more popular than ever, The Sweden Democrats are also the same and came out of nowhere to be one of the biggest voted for parties. This is all before we've even looked at the France situation, let alone the EU elections, or other countries throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

You really are a clueless drunk.

Consultants don’t earn too much, NHS scale is £99k to £132k. The problem is that they weren‘t / aren’t allowed to keep enough of it especially if they work additional sessions.

You mean the Dutch election where Wilders PVV got 23.49% of the vote? the AFD got 15% of the vote and that is less than half of the CDU.

We have talked about the France situation, the far right only got 33% of the vote and only a few % more than the far left.

Yes let's keep things factual, you want to talk about the EU elections. The ECR group only a 3rd of the seats as the Centre Right block and less than half the seats of the Centre Left block.

The rest of the world? You specifically mentioned Europe.

NW is right, you are the stupidest person on this forum and the fact you think you are smart is comedy gold.

No one won. It was a hung parliament. The election was in November and it’s took until last week to get an agreement to form a government, he’s entered into a coalition with three other parties.

Let’s see how he does. He’s as equal a crackpot as Javier Melie in Argentina, it was barely 2 months before mass protests broke out calling for him to resign and he won a landslide. There’s protests calling for him to go most weekends even now 8 months later. I’d say that there’s no chance of him getting in next time but there’s already signs that he’s turning into a little Putin, sweeping new powers, rewriting history etc.

Most of you on this thread spend half your life shitting yourselves that 'the far right is growing and sweeping Europe', but when the facts are presented to you, suddenly you go into the opposite direction and start rocking yourselves into a delusional state. What is it, a comforting technique? It's really weird behaviour, but I suppose from a psychology perspective, does make complete sense.

As for being called stupid by you and your pal NW. I wouldn't take anything either of you say with any degree of seriousness whatsoever, so don't worry. A look in the mirror might be useful though...

And how much do you think the wages would have to be to balance the supply/demand? I can tell you right now it would be way above NLW. It would make the junior doctors demands look tiny.

And if you don't offer that you've still got staff shortages. How you going to fill them? Or are we just going to leave them unfilled at the detriment of the elderly?

This is why I can’t take you seriously. You’re asked what your policy is and you go off against the cartoon villain in your head.

The entire point is yes anti immigrant sentiment is on the rise, but what do you want to do about it? If the people complaining don’t even know then you can’t complain politicians aren’t doing what you want. We just committed economic self harm to placate anti immigration voters and it’s still not enough. Farage doesn’t have any answers, just waffles about invasions and traffic jams and says he wants zero immigration (which would kill the economy) then when pushed admits he’d let in all the same people and makes up some numbers about dependents because without making up numbers or harming the economy there’s not much that can be done.

30% vote in France and NL gets you in power, not so much here.

No, he never turned up, and then twisted it from behind the safety of his internet connection - which was obvious from the get go. A bit like you, he is a small man hiding behind a keyboard that spends too much time during daylight hours getting fucked up and embarrassing themself on the internet. So how long do people reckon it will be before PM Starmer tells us that they have discovered that the country’s finances are far worse than they had thought, and most if not all of the promises are going to have to be shelved and an emergency tax raising budget published?

Just to state again the headline of net zero immigration doesn’t actually match the pledge. They’re talking about non essential immigration so skilled and essential immigration are not going to be effected. They also specifically single out healthcare workers as being essential. Social care is on its ass also so you have to assume that is classed as essential. Health and social care currently represents about 75% of all work visas. When you consider just health and social care workers and no other skilled or essential workers the most they’re going to cut immigration by is 25% so unless there’s a mass exodus they’re never going to reach net zero. It’s a con.
