I know everyone says we’re sorted their cost Eccles and Kelly and even Allen can fill in. But I felt we lost so much without Hamer as the others are all more defensive minded and I feel the drop off in quality is quite big. Also if we do want to play three in the middle sometimes it would be nice to have another option.

What say you SBT? Another CM? And if so, who? Would need to be someone happy to sit on the bench or good enough to push one of Hamer/Sheaf/O’Hare out the team.

I think we are more than covered . Eccles will only get better and Howley is well regarded too . Focus on defence and attack would be my choice

Nit sure what to make of Howley. Lots of hype but not seen much to hang that on on the pitch. Hope he kicks on this year. We need a CM who is a bit more attack minded without being an out and out forward like O’Hare and Palmer. And isn’t a powder puff like Allen.

I can see us playing the box again if Simms signs

So ideally

Hamer - Sheaf
Palmer/O'Hare - New signing
Simms

As the front 5 imo

Kelly and Eccles on the bench for the Sheaf role and Allen can fill in any of the positions, but another deep lying playmaker to replace Hamer when required could be useful

Assuming Hamer stays then I think we're OK.

If someone crops up that is a no brainer then yeah sure go for it. But for now it's probably the area we're strongest in.

If we could replace Allen then yes but to add to the strongest area of our squad currently makes little sense

Midfield is about the only area we're well stocked if Hamer stays.

If Hamer stays then maybe a backup or loan to allow Howley to go out on loan. I thought Howley looked like he had a lot of potential for the little we saw him so very intrigued to see how he progresses.

When you look at our midfield on paper collectively and individually we are okay but I think a top end centre-mid I’d go for.

I'd never say no to another top class centre mid to push Hamer and Sheaf.

I remember a Matty James performance on a absolute mudbath at St Andrews. He played 90mins in the white kit and came out without a mark on him. There's always room for class...

Ideally yes.

someone with more legs and physicality …: at times we are neat and tidy but can get bossed by more mobile and physical midfields ….

We need 3 CB before we're OK.

If we were in for Nick Powell, you’d assume that isn’t the only CM we’re in the market for.

I think we're well stocked assuming Hamer stays.

Sheaf, Eccles and Kelly for DCM
O'Hare, Palmer and Allen for ACM
Hamer could do a job in either.

I think we’re ok in midfield, focus on our attack and defence, then if we have some funds left why not get another midfielder in for depth.

I don’t think we need one but if we have the funds to upgrade on Allen I’d do it.

I wouldn't mind a young attacking creative mid, even if a bit raw, coming off the bench. Maybe to develop over next two seasons.

Yeh, nothing wrong with improving on what we have - Nakamba for example, was decent for Luton - someone like this would be ideal.

What's the issue with Allen? He does a job, and does it well. Probably on relatively low wages too. Almost never gets injured which is a bonus.

Top lad. I noticed Paul Ince picked him out as one of our best players last season

Least of our worries at present.

We need 3 CH, at least 1 probs 2 RWB, 2 CF, and ideally 1 GK.
Then I'd let Bidwell and Murphy go and bring in 2 better/ younger players.

I'd be happy with that lot in place before kick off before worrying about CM.

Danny Murphy. He's way past retirement age now. Time to let him go.

I feel we need another attacking midfielder, possibly a Prem loan (Diallo please) until O'Hare is fit. We can't rely on Palmer to play enough games.

Jacob Murphy - hasn’t played since 2015/16 cos we’ve had him constantly out on loan - he was at newcastle last season

I would like to continue to see Hamer in the attacking midfielder role. His end product is unmatched.

Doing that may mean another quality CM could be welcome. As Doug is on a spending bender it doesn't seem like it should be a problem.

As you say if Palmer plays regular and to his potential he would be ideal in centre-mid.
