Awful. We were worse than Ipswich. Normal ball in play 57 mins which is bad from 90, but Monday it was 45. Crazy.

Are Milan's throws really worth 10 wasted minutes? Maybe stick to his side only. Occasionally throw it short, stop the ridiculous taking the other ball and wiping it 3 times.

7 mins to take free kicks and they're usually shite. Grimes lofting it either into no mans land or too close to the keeper.

Needs sorting and I know it's not just us. Probably time for a independent clock with 2 x 30 mins ball in play.

How accurate is it? What would furlong getting injured about 4 times be classed as?

Referees again I think largely, it's up to them to enforce.

But not last night?
I think we of course should use it but not always,no variation means predictable?

We’ve scored 7 goals from throw ins this season. We’re as lethal from them as that famous Pulis Stoke team. Who gives a fuck if it takes an extra minute or two of game time.

It's the time as much as the throws. At tge end on Monday with about 3 mins to go we wasted s minute taking them. At that time surely just get the ball in play quickly and hopefully 3 mins left to get another.

The whole routine takes too long. Thomas looked as good if not better but we of course need him on the end of them. Ipswich were a big side too so not surprised we didn't get any joy. Nothing to say we wouldn't have scored as many in half the time. As I said if it was ball in play then it wouldn't matter but Monday was ridiculous.

Presume free kicks as they were 8+ mins on those

Just watched all our goals, not sure which I've missed. Got Derby, Watford, Sheff Utd, Stoke and Swansea. Arguably all 2nd phase, but are as a result of long throw. 4 out of 5 down his side. Small sample size, but most of the wasted time is trotting across to the far side and him then having to sprint back in to recover and get in position (not sure if any goals conceded were in transition from our throws). Watford was the exception.

On that basis perhaps only do his side and ideally get Jay practicing them too.

The transfer flow has us down as 5 long throw goals in a write up on the club 3 weeks ago and we scored one vs Swansea so 6?

In the first half we had Rushworth getting treated for about 5 minutes.

Furlong repeatedly lying on the floor before recovering when the ref started to call the physio on.

The Ipswich keeper taking his time with goal kicks.

Various set pieces.

3 minutes added time.

I thought that. The time it takes for him to go over and then throw it in, it’s killing any momentum AND we aren’t scoring from them anyway. I’d pick and choose when to do it.

Its literally our biggest weapon and likely the one thing that wont change should we go up.

It causes chaos everytime we use it

Yeah it's a massive weapon

People in crowd were moaning about it at Swansea game and then we scored from it. Then they go back to moaning about it

How many points has it gained us? We'd be genuinely bonkers to ditch the long throw!

Be grateful for that on Monday mate. if the ball had been in play for longer, the score could have been worse. Hasn't harmed us overall this season though!

I'd imagine if you look across other games in the league, they would be the same or maybe 2/3 minutes less.

Getting rid of a great goal scoring opportunity to save 2 minutes of game time is a genius idea. If only Wright would have closed down their keeper too...

When Thomas is back..i will back him 9 times out of 10 to win first header! Free kick/long throw or corner.

wtf you on about you weirdo? My posts since Ipswich have been this thread and telling an Ipswich fan to fek off. Not sure what you deem odd.

Also, all the replies are concentrating on one aspect only. I've not even said ditch it, I asked a simple question of is 10 minutes wasted worth it. Was it right to use it against such a big side, particularly when Thomas who is our biggest threat wasn't playing.

The whole point of my post though, was more about the total wasted time from both teams. If you think that's ok its your choice, but its not entertaining and I suggested an independent timekeeper as an alternative. Even without thr throws, the out of play time is still not good enough and disrupts the flow.

Agree 100. Thomas is the best weapon on these.

Did frustrate me in added time that we had the ball for the throw and could have thrown directly to Milan who could have crossed into the box. Instead we waited for Milan to go over, clean the ball adjust for his run up then lauch a throw much less effective than a cross.

I agree that 45 minutes wastage is way too much, and some kind of clock system (used without problems in rugby) might be looked at to enforce actual playing time. It would be a big break from tradition, but it's hardly rocket science.

Another thing that annoys the hell out of me is substituted players walking off the field at a snail's pace. If the clock was stopped there'd be no incentive for that type of thing.

I bet Milan’s long throws have a better conversion rate than crosses from open play.

People have the memories of goldfish on here. Everyone already forgotten us winning 1-0 via a long throw goal on Boxing Day?
