I think Lampard probably encourages it. Seen plenty on opposition forums saw how dirty we are ( esp Kitch/Thomas) but we have a habit of getting caught so not really in our DNA

Most of the time we won’t be caught doing it. This season there’s also been an increase in us looking for an getting free kicks.

We had a 'competitive' midfield of McGrath, Speedie and Emerson under John Sillett. With 5 games gone one season I think Emerson had 4 bookings and Speedie 5 in a race to see who could get suspended first!!

In typical Cov fashion it’s happened as refs have been told to let more go and we just look stupid trying it.

So striking how much better other teams are at the dark arts. Another reason why I think Ipswich and Boro will go up and not us, although this has been the case every season.

This could be my rose coloured tinted fan spectacles on, but I can’t think of any Coventry team who have ever nailed game management and dark arts (I’ve been supporting them since 98/99).

Can anybody think of a Cov team who have done it well? Honestly none spring to mind.

Why post this shit?

Also not getting them.

A lot of instances this season of giving the ball away really cheaply by looking for a free kick when there's no free kick there.

Tbh, I just think it shows a general lack of nous in the team.

Umm….because as a Coventry fan I’m interested in its history? We have people who supported the club beyond me (98-99) and I want to discuss its football style with other fans? I can’t think of a better reason for a club forum, but maybe others would rather keep it to a digital noticeboard of whinging.

Doesn't it drive you mad when the keeper goes down with a time wasting injury? It happens every week in the lower leagues. If players of both teams were forbidden to go for a team chat at the dugouts, I think it would irradiate it.

Individual player. Stuart Pearce, thighs like tree trunks. First time the winger came against him, winger flying into the stands.. Those days, first one free, no yellow card. The wingers never dared again.

Terry Yorath & Sam Allardyce never shirked a tackle either

Are we blind to the dark arts? Being a fan means all your players are saints and the opposition is diving lying bastards and the refs are useless which kind of makes it hard to spot surely?

Take the keeper off for 30 seconds and make them play rushbacks.

Drive me nuts and seems to be something again which we rarely do to the same degree. Maybe that’s a compliment to us?

Also how come Latibeaudiere had to go off the pitch against Oxford when the guy who injured him was carded? Basic stuff refs should know.

Probably because it was a head injury? The concussion protocols are bollocks, any potential concussion injury should be off for proper assessment with a temporary substitute allowed during this time

How the fuck would he know?
The only time we waste against them at CBS this and most other seasons is when we repeatedly kick the ball into their net.

Yeah it was a point I argued with him - it was after the 3-0 home win - couldn’t take it back when I had him about all the shenanigans at St Andrews…..

I don’t think we’ve ever had a manager who really pushes that philosophy amongst the players. Maybe Andy Boothroyd? That was just crap football rather than dark arts

No exactly - like Wilder where it’s almost part of his coaching philosophy be a horrible bastard.
And mourinho to a degree.

Killer Killcline, Lloyd McGrath and David Speedie were also quite hardy so to speak

He clattered horizontally through the back of Mick Harford to win a header at HR which ended Harford's involvement, can't remember if he was even booked or not. Allardyce must hold the record for most bookings per game for us & probably most other teams he played for.

Bobby Gould ran on the pitch during a game and tried to attack the referee

If he was concussed he wouldn’t be allowed to carry on. It was a mistake from the ref and I’m amazed no one else spotted it on our team or the fourth official tbh.

I don't think football takes head injuries & possible concussion seriously enough but I just thought as it was a head injury maybe he had to go off
