So striking how much better other teams are at the dark arts. Another reason why I think Ipswich and Boro will go up and not us, although this has been the case every season.

This could be my rose coloured tinted fan spectacles on, but I can’t think of any Coventry team who have ever nailed game management and dark arts (I’ve been supporting them since 98/99).

Can anybody think of a Cov team who have done it well? Honestly none spring to mind.

I remember us kicking the shit out of a very young Sunderland side a couple of seasons ago.

Don’t think we’ve had a manager who’s ever really instilled it

I guess more as a consistent style rather than a one off game

I reckon our cup winning side knew what they were doing.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Would have thought something nugget would have rubbed off. Instead he’s produced the most gutless team going.

We were pretty dirty at Norwich (who incidentally have been the emperors of shithousery for 15 years). Not that it did us much good though.

Different type of dirt …. But if Liam Daish was still playing he’d do a job CB for us now!

From what I've read we managed games well when we were promoted in the 60's. With George Curtis as captain I guess that's not surprising. That was a long time ago though!

Wilson is good at the shithousery. Always makes me laugh when he does it.

Must have had some pretty dirty sides in the 70s after playing at places like the Baseball Ground.

'Uncompromising' was a commonly used adjective to describe him in many a programme note.

Didn't Dennis Wise get booked in about 6 seconds on his debut against Derby?

I think we’ve had the odd player who puts it about a bit, albeit some of them didn’t always do it on the sly.
More recently the likes of Fadz, Kitching and even Callum Doyle. Bidwell doesn’t shy away from anything but he’s quite an honest player in my view.
but not enough of it I don’t think.
seems to me our players are too nice and when they try to do anything dirty we get penalised. Which I suppose is how it should be.

I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to view us like sheff Utd.
By the way a blues supporting mate that I know says we do actually do all the stuff other teams do in terms of time wasting etc - I don’t agree but interesting to hear it.

Remember Donall Murphy kneeing Kenny Burns in the nuts then turning round and heading for the tunnel before the ref had sent him off.

How the fuck would he know?
The only time we waste against them at CBS this and most other seasons is when we repeatedly kick the ball into their net.

I don’t think we’ve ever had a manager who really pushes that philosophy amongst the players. Maybe Andy Boothroyd? That was just crap football rather than dark arts

I think Lampard probably encourages it. Seen plenty on opposition forums saw how dirty we are ( esp Kitch/Thomas) but we have a habit of getting caught so not really in our DNA

Not an entire team but a team that had McGrath, Emerson, Kilcline and Peake didn’t take any prisoners.

Individual player. Stuart Pearce, thighs like tree trunks. First time the winger came against him, winger flying into the stands.. Those days, first one free, no yellow card. The wingers never dared again.

I do recollect a similar Dublin incident. The Murphy/ Burns one was back in the 70s. A very hard fought local derby against Blues.
