    Interesting story.

First, Disney sack the director, James Gunn over offensive funny tweets from 10 years ago.

Then one of the stars of the movies has come out against the sacking and in support of the director

James Gunn: Guardians of the Galaxy director fired over offensive tweets - Guardians of the Galaxy director fired

James Gunn: Dave Bautista defends Guardians of the Galaxy director - Bautista defends Guardians of the Galaxy director

But then, when you see the tweets you surely have to think something isn't quite right. Very paedophilic in nature and more disturbing than funny.

Some odd tweets there for sure. Guess it is also the volume of them on the same subject too, so not just one odd joke.

For those not in the know, NAMBLA is the North American Man/Boy Love Association. A paedophile group.

But 10 years ago. Do you not ever leave these things behind?

Yeah, I kind of agree, but don't you find the tweets a bit creepy. I just don't get the joke at all with the NAMBLA one. When you see all the other kiddie sex 'jokes' and then see him saying NAMBLA people are his BFF's I just find that odd.

Normally I would agree, but there does seem a bit of a pattern. Would certainly like to see some of his other joke tweets to see if he just jokes about everything.

Hes probably pissed the wrong person off and now they're trying to screw him over. His tweets aren't funny nor offensive. I find it funny how the hypocrites in Hollywood love to go after certain people after saying stupid things years ago, but are more then willing to defend and give a standing ovation to a convicted pedophile (Polanski).

Hmm. Don't you find him saying that a renowned paedophile group are his best friends forever, offensive?

    Just interested to know.

Asked my daughter and she immediately said she found it offensive.

Don't know much about it but what was the context of it all? People like Gervais or Frankie Boyle joke about things like that also.

Don't know. Just seen the tweets highlighted above. There does seem to be a theme about sex with boys.

Two I particularly find weird, the NAMBLA one and the one about him liking little boys touching him in his silly place and then putting a 'shh' on the end of it.

Think context means everything with it all, hard to judge it without seeing what else he tweets.

He could well be a paedo, he could just be somebody with a warped sense of humour.

    Maybe.

Out of interest, if someone on here posted that they liked little boys touching them on the penis, would you allow it, whatever the context?

I just find it all a bit weird, rather than offensive, but can see why he has been sacked.

I’m genuinely not being difficult here but the other day you posted a picture regarding sexy women being filmed in the World Cup.

The image you posted could be considered to show you as sexist and anti Muslim. I’m not saying you are - but it could.

It was a picture though of a Muslim woman who was deliberately not sexy, which was the kind of the point. And I really, really cannot see how anyone could say I was anti Muslim based on one single photo, which a lot of people did not find at all offensive. Think only two had a problem with it.

Massive difference between sexism and paedophilia though anyway. Think someone posting a picture a sexy women some might find sexist, but if ayone put up a post saying they like little boys touching them on the penis, I think you would have a bit of a meltdown occurring on here.

I found it offensive and you should immediately be dismissed! He only talked about it where you actually degraded a women by posting pics of her, you're a disgrace.

I'm joking of course but as yon can see we can all have faux outrage over nothing.

Indeed and I'm not at all outraged by this director thing to be honest. I can't for the life of me even see where the joke is though. If I could I might be able to get my head around it more. Just cannot see any humour, but hey, he's American.

Interesting to note though that he's not talking about being quoted out of context and is more talking about it being 10 years ago and he's grown since then.

Not as much as rape of an under age girl which gets hero status from the likes of Meryl Streep

Context is king here. Its easy to pick out isolated tweets people made years ago and highlight them but a few tweets a decade ago when he was trying to go down a South Park-esque shock comedy route does not make him a paedophile.

Although if he was a paedophile past history would suggest Disney would still employ him. After all they employed convicted paedophile Victor Salva to direct Powder.

Not to mention Disney owned Miramax, Harvey Weinsteins company. They've recently gone to court, and lost, in a bid to keep secret how much they knew about his actions.

In the early stages of Twitter, people seemed to be more edgy and provocative without the foresight that it'd soon become an audit on their entire character and history as it seems to be now.

Phew, just checked. I wasn't on Twitter 10 years ago. 9 and a half and 11, but not 10.

Is that not a retweet of somebody else's tweet, still odd but not his own comment.

    Okay. Didn't spot that.

It's the oddness that has thrown me as much as anything else to be quite honest.

We can all find something not funny (cue me), but understand the attempt of the joke, but I am struggling a bit with some of these.

Would defnitely like to see the full context.

As I say, only one star has come out in support. Let's see if others do it too.

I only heard about this a couple of hours ago, and might not understand all of the context, but what I would say is those tweets are no different from shock value banter in the workplace. Imho it's just shitty humour, rather than anything more. And I understand that this is old news - he apologised for this a few years ago, and it's now being rehashed. Strikes me that he's pissed off the wrong person, and is being taken out of the game as a result.

This is the muck-raking that seems to define 2018, Gunn not being a bit Trump fan is the catalyst - the guy who dug it up is one of the alt-right dicks behind the pizzagate conspiracy theory that linked Hillary Clinton to a paedophile ring operating out of a pizza restaurant or something equally plausible.

Remember when Question Time and a newspaper's letters page was the only chance the public had to embarrass themselves about politics? Great days.

I saw pizzagate created on 4chan live. Was a blatant troll/pisstake thread that spiralled out of all control. People are just willing to believe anything about groups they don't like. Look at any thread about Wasps/CCC/Sisu on here.

10 years ago. you have to give people the chance to change

although if he hadnt made 2 amazing gotg movies beforehand i doubt he would have so many supporters of course

but seems like bad humour rather than hate. i hope he gets job back but looks unlikely

The world's a mad place. Gunn in the first place for posting such things, and now the climate in which he has been fired. The worst thing is, the tweets have been known about for years. Gunn is even on record discussing them, and stating he has grown up since posting them, and ultimately apologising for them. So I don't ultimately understand why Disney took the action now, and not previously. God knows what will happen when they find out about Downey Jr's troubled past.

Far right campaign to get him sacked for being a bit left wing basically.
