Can't believe there are no pictures of Dublin at Ryton, up there with the best we've had

Absolutely! Can’t believe this Villa rival crap gets in the way of some people regarding the fantastic player he was for us. The best I have had the pleasure to watch in the Sky Blue shirt.

Interviews with two loan players only because Football Focus couldn't possibly speak about something without mentioning the PL clubs

We need like a legends walk with quotes from them - I can just picture it

Cyrill Regis - "Never allow racism to affect you, make it motivate you to try harder. I very quickly realised that the best way to fight back was to use your talent to score goals."
Dion Dublin - "And here you've got your stairs leading into the bedrooms"

Inspirational.

Agreed on the comments on Dublin. I hated him when he left but that's water under the bridge, he was a talisman for us and a great player who gave us a lot.

Dublin one of a handful of players I’ve seen for city who was just a different level to everyone else. Easily the best striker I’ve ever seen at the club, and one of the best defenders IIRC.

I really thought he’d stick around and see out his career with us, eventually being converted to a full time centre half. Gutted when he left but never felt anger at him, only at the club for letting him go...and on the cheap...and to villa!

I always tell my lad the story of phil Neal really wanting paul scholes but Man Utd changed their mind and we ended up with Dion instead. What a great £2m signing that was

One of my favourite all time players too.
In fact one of my favourite eras with some great players.
Just loved them all.
Playing in the best ground in the country.

Did we stand a chance of getting Scholes?!?
I was genuinely pissed off when we signed Dublin. Having sold one of my previous faves, Phil Babb, prior to his signature.
He’d hardly played for Utd and been injured for ages. I should’ve known how good he’d be after watching him destroy Andy Pearce when we played Cambridge Utd in the FA cup. In my defence, it was only Andy Pearce.

Remember Wimbledon away at Sellhurst Park, last game of the season. We had to win to stay up, took 8,000 and Dublin played centre half. He was immense that day. Not only the best striker at the club but best centre back as well.

As a 15 year old when we sold him, I was apoplectic, gave him dogs abuse at Villa Park when we won 4-1, and detested him for a while... but looking back he was a City legend and almost single-handedly kept us in the Premier League for several years.

An immense player and one of my favourites.

At the time it felt like he really deserted us and then it felt like he came back and pinched Boateng as well, part of the problem wasn’t him going it was were he went to.

I think it would be really good to see him at a former players day with Huckerby and Whelan.

Kindly put a name forward who was better than Dion as a center back during his 4 years with us.
I am struggling olderskyblue, I can make a case for Babb just before him and Trevor Peake earlier and Jeff Blockley but other than those who compares to Dion as a center back?

Scott Dann and the under rated Peter Atherton are two that come to mind.

I would say the best two I have seen here are Babb and Peake.

I did mean at the time, hence why Atkinson played him there on the most important game of the season

At the time he probably was for all the great attacking options we had we were quite poor in the centre of defence Bremen, Shaw and Williams didn’t fill me with great confidence

It's about opinions but a championship Scott Dann and an under rated Peter Atherton?
I would have put Andy Pearce and Atherton in my Peter Hindley and Alan Dugdale file.
Dann? Decent but no Dublin in my estimation.
Roy Barry prior to his leg break was the best for me on reflection but probably too short a period to merit the same status as Peake.

Dann has gone on to have a decent prem career without being spectacular, atherton was a good partner for Babb

Thank you! Curtis had his top level career curtailed early on at Forest so wasn't" able prove himself in the top flight.
Roy Barry was sublime until leg brake and my favorite, Holton was past his best but if you look at the stats he played more for us than any team he played for, was part of a really good team that finished seventh in 77-78. Good call.
