I'm going to throw a new name out there for the manager position, that of Derek Adams.

Who he? He be the manager of Ross County, who beat us 1-0 pre-season.

Why him? He has over seen been at the helm for two promotions (albeit one in part due to a league restructuring) and a Scottish Cup final in two spells at Ross County (he quit to become Hibs assistant manager but returned in 2011). He was selected as PFA Scotland Manager of the Year last year after taking Ross County on a 38 game unbeaten run that saw them win the Scottish first division and promotion to the SPL with a 24-point margin and five games to spare.
What else? For those who like their win ratios, his stats (according to transfermarkt) are: Wins 48,77 %; Draws 25,93 %; Losses 25,31 %
And? Er, he's from Glasgow, like a lot of good managers (see negatives too).

How does his team play? I don't have a clue, and that's where I was hoping SW88 or someone else who saw the Ross County game could help me out. According to transfermarkt, he prefers 4-4-2 or 4-4-2 double 6, whatever that means. Astute, has your lad seen Ross County play?
Is he realistic? Even in our current predicament, I'd hope we'd be seen as a step up from Ross County (no offence intended to them) and we've poached a couple of SPL players this summer, so why not a manager?

What are the negatives? He seems to have had a few disciplinary issues early in his managerial career. He was once threatened with an 18 game ban for breaching an earlier touchline ban for clashing with officials (though this was overturned on appeal - and, anyway, is having a passionate character on the touchline actually a bad thing?)
And? He is from Glasgow, like Alex McLeish

Anyway, I'd really be interested in knowing how this guy gets his teams to play football. I'm a bit tired of seeing the same old names being touted around and wanted to think outside the box a bit. This guy is experienced, he's a winner and with a win ratio that, at nearly 50 per cent, tops any other I recall being mentioned for anyone else. What do you lot think?

I confess, I had forgotten about your win percentages thread Ccfcisparks. I counted 8 on their with the same or better win ratio (excluding those that have only been in post for 4 games as the size is too small IMHO). But in how many cases was that over their whole career and not just their latest club (I note someone said Keith Curle had a 13% win ratio at Torquay) and how many games was this over in total? Derek Adams's stats are over 173 games, indicating a fair degree of consistency (if not improvement - he was on 63% win ratio after 19 games of in his second spell according to Wikipedia).

I think the 'Double 6' is 2 of the midfielders helping the 4 out whilst defending, then whilst attacking it's all 4 midfielders plus the 2 attackers...I could be wrong but that is how I see it.

Yes it was on their last club, and yeah Curle had a horrid record at Torquay xD It is over the amount of games they have had at their club

If you're right that sounds like a formation that would require some fit midfielders!

So he might be better than a few of those 8?

No one with any knowledge of Scottish football or who saw our Ross County pre-season game able to help me out then?

Not sure about the way they set up, or style of football, but they certainly get results, good start again this season unbeaten and took a point of Celtic (yuk)
Good shout,
