First 20 mins he kept standing next to Frank when ever we had a set piece to defend …. As we became more and more shambolic defensively he stopped doing it

If someone can tell me specifically what aspects of defensive or goalkeeping coaching we aren’t doing well during the week then I’d love to hear it.

Whatever is happening and with who it isn’t working the goals against tell you that both in number and also the way we concede them, hopefully Frank has a coach pal who is out of work who can come in and straighten them out. I think he should be saying best of luck to the keeper coach and Carr or any others we have lurking about and get his own men in.

Get Petr Cech and John Terry in, teach three spinless wankers how to defend and not concede

Is he actually our defensive coach, officially?

Think we’d be better off with Aled Jones. If there’s such an emphasis on data-driven performances, how is he still coordinating the defensive side of things?!
I’ve not seen our defence so frail and disorganised for a while.

From what I gather, it's...

Kicking and distribution

Strength and stamina

Positioning

I believe the one they keep missing and run out of time to do, is....

Saving

Just be honest and say you don’t know what they do in training.

Having a go at the coaches instead of the players is the last refuge of fans who have run out of ideas or places to direct their anger.

Coaches are there to improve players.
We've had a succession of goalkeepers who are abject failures who have declined rather than improved.
I know absolutely nothing about cars but if I drive my car in to a garage for an MOT and it breaks down as I'm driving it off the forecourt I know the mechanic has fucked up.

Or maybe your car just wasn’t very good?

Williams was the GK coach when we made the playoffs on the back of a solid defensive setup and our keeper (up to that point in his career a nobody) won the Golden Glove. Didn’t hear many complaints about his coaching abilities back then.

Our keepers have been awful for years, and people were moaning about Wilson in the play off season, (I wasn't one of them).

For a long time now it's been a massively problematic position and I cant remember the last keeper who came here and improved for any sustained length of time.

Given that, I find it amazing that anyone can try and exonerate the goal keeping coach of any responsibility

Coaches are responsible for lots of aspects that we are doing consistently poorly. To absolve them of blame is weird

The answer you’re looking for is Ben Wilson.

I wouldn’t exonerate anyone from blame but there are far more important figures in determining how well our keepers play - let’s start with the keepers themselves, the defenders in front of them, and the manager who tells them all how they should play.

Like what? I assume you know what Williams does with them all week.

The best answer I’ve had so far is that they should spend more time on coaching “saving”…..genius.

No need to be so prickly !

Just as an Idea aside from saving , what about positioning from set pieces , defenders allocated opposition players or areas from set pieces .
We are struggling fundamentally to do the basics well . Someone is responsible for that

Yes - the players.

A new coach is not going to turn any of our keepers into Lev Yashin, I’m sorry to say.

Ben Wilson had a 1 great season

Burge crap.
Marosi 1 good season, went to crap (injury related)
Moore 1 good season, went to crap
Collins suspect to start with, got worse
Dovin fuck knows what's going on.

If that's nothing to do with the goalkeeping coach then let's get rid and spend the money elsewhere

Christ almighty, Moore was responsible for dropping a clanger about 6 games on the trot before he got dropped.

I'm not sure why you've decided to take up the mantle of forum contrarian but you really are trying to argue black is white

Marosi and Moore are both playing for teams higher up the pyramid/table than they were when they joined us. They both did fine for us and ended up playing at a similar level or higher. The idea that Aled Williams “ruined” them simply doesn’t hold water.

Marosi was ruined by Sean Morrison.

I never said Ales Williams ruined anyone.
I've said we've constantly had issues with our keepers and as goal keeping coach he has to take some responsibility.

The fact Moore is playing for a team chasing the autos proves that with the right coaching he's better than he showed 2nd season here.

Yep but we had a decent defensive coach in Dennis Lawrence. Williams was only the goalkeeper coach during which time we saw Moore, Collins and Wilson decline

Yeah, I did mention the injury and Moore it seems had personal issues but the overall picture is are keeper situation has been problematic for a while even though there have been goods spells.

If I’m honest, I do think we need more coaches like Lawrence who do everything right behind the scenes, and less coaches like Williams who do everything wrong. Instant success.
