Good move for him. At 22 he's going to have to perform well to be kept on here I think. However with McFadz probably only good for another season, and Clarke-Salter only on loan, we are short of centre backs. Perhaps George Burroughs and Alabi will be expected to break through by next season

Always had the feeling Drysdale will be a contender for a replacement for Fadz. Tall, composed on the ball but not particularly pacey, seems to me he COULD be a contender for that central spot in the back 3.

However, no doubts about it, he needs to ace this loan spell as he's at a cross roads. I also have no doubt he would have gone out on loan earlier but he got injured for 2 months in August.

Got another year on his contract, TBH I’d bin him (and most of the older U23s) off in the summer.

Good opportunity for him. But at that stage where he needs to kick on now.

I’m going to be brutal here but If he (Drysdale) can’t break into the first team at 22, he clearly isn’t good enough. He needs moving on.

I don't think he's going to make it here, given that we're hardly blessed with riches for 3 centre back positions, him being let go on loan at his age doesn't bode well. But you never know.

Nothing to be ashamed of not breaking through. Most of the U23s were signed in lower leagues and it’s a massive jump to this level. Assuming we stay at this level it’ll be a few years before the academy catches up I’d expect.

not sure the academy will catch up....
We need to stop selling players prematurely and properly invest in the set up.
The first team moving up the leagues does nothing to enhance the players in the academy

Drysdale is nowhere near Championship standard, and struggled in League One. All the best to him but can't see him being here next season.

Hes nowhere near good enough, for even league 1. But good luck to him hopefully makes a career out of it.

You may be right, but it's worth pointing out that Mcfadzean was playing in the Conference North at Drysdale's age.

We will know more in these 6 months. Ross County boss say he's more than ready to jump straight into their team. a) Will he break in quickly, b) if he does, will he stay in c) will he excel, for him to have any chance here he needs to boss it.

He did well in league 2 right? I’m not complaining but had we still been there he may have been able to develop through the divisions with us, like Hyam has.
I’m confident now that any U23s breaking into the first team must be a notch or two above what we’ve had.

Godden was also non league until 24 then league 2 til 26.

Of course means nothing really but i'm not writing DD off just yet. Was only last year he was being described as our Vigil van Dyck when he went out on loan to Gillingham.

Obviously you’d know more than me, but surely we’ve got more pull as a Championship club than L1?

Where is our centre-back cover?

It seems odd to me to loan out both Drysdale and Pask, particularly with the COVID situation which could easily reduce squad at any point.
Clarke-Salter has struggled with injuries this season and Rose has struggled with injuries for the last year or so.
We have seen that Dabo has looked out of his depth when drafted there.
Sheaf and Eccles are options but will be needed in midfield.
That leaves the U23 players Burroughs and McGrath.
I can't see the point of Pask going on loan when he will be leaving in the summer anyway so it won't be benefiting the club. Financially I cannot imagine Newport will be contributing much.
