He loved angles. Isosceles triangles got him going.

In October 2011, Grahame confirmed she had relapsed and was suffering from anorexia again, stating she had checked into her 11th institution and weighed 35 kg (5 st 7 lb).

I can see why it ended up killing her

It never has been, really, just it's harder to see peoples' responses of the past, as the surviving records are driven by the elite.

Mass Observation is a wonderful archive btw. A bit younger than your examples, but Diana was more complex response than you'd maybe think seeing the portrayal at the time.

What we are being subjected to now pales into insignificance compared to that time, which was like a never-ending brainwashing nightmare - didn't have many alternatives viewing or listening choices either.

Can't help thinking that if Hary and his wife drove off a cliff they'd be outrage if there weren't wall-to-wall grief.

EFL's 3pm kick-offs on April 17 to be moved for Prince Philip's funeral

As a mark of respect, EFL matches scheduled for 3pm on Saturday 17 April will be moved to avoid a clash with the funeral of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Premier League also liaising with the Palace, Government and relevant authorities about next weekends fixtures

Are they expecting everyone to attend his bloody funeral, then? Why have his funeral on a bloody Saturday at 3pm? Jeez! It gets more and more crazy!

Not really a problem having games moved is it? The reaction is funny. It’s like when people get cross that an international game has got in the way of their tv soap fix. Think CVD is right with this.

I think Saturday has always been the day of the week chosen for such funerals to take place. For obvious reasons.

Strangely enough, Saturdays are also the most common weekday upon which to die.

Additionally, more people die on their birthday than on any other day. My Mum was one. When she arrived in hospital for the last time, the nurse, knowing that it was her birthday the following Wednesday, asked my mother what she wanted for her birthday. "To die", was the response, which she did, that following Wednesday.

Yes it was fine! Especially given that I just knew what my Mum was going to say when the nurse asked, and so had my wincing smile prepared (she said it in a real deadpan way as if to say "Well, what do you think?" )

I can't say that her last days were peaceful, but she had long wanted to move on after the loss of our Father some years earlier. For some, there comes a point when the love of your children is not enough.

The Labour education secretary who could have been Britain's first woman PM

Decent, clever, charming, eloquent, hard-working, conscientious and terribly, terribly nice, Shirley Williams is one of Britain’s best-loved politicians. Mark Peel’s admiring biographybegins in Chelsea in 1930. Shirley, as he matily calls her, was the eldest daughter of the political philosopher...

Nah, it was already bust. She tried to improve it by streaming post entry, as was required, but it was applied throughout the sector in ad hoc fashion and never universal.

Williams destruction of the grammar system while at the same time ensuring she moved boundaries to make sure her daughter attended one is the sort of thing Mr Cummings would have been proud of - one rule for the masses and another for me

I believe it varied from school to school. Certainly, the crap school by my brother and I attended (he joined in 66 and I in 70) did not stream on entry. Rather you got streamed in the fourth year onwards only, according to whether you were taking CSEs and GSCEs. It was a great system for leveling down, and Shirley looked to change that - instead, all schools were to be based on grammar schools.
