You seem to be making this up as you go along

All I will say is that the idea that Frank Lampard has willingly signed up to a structure where he reports into an as-yet unidentified Director of Football, and can be outvoted on all recruitment decisions by Dean Austin and Claire-Marie Roberts seems extremely unlikely to me.

Exactly (and Van Ewijk tbf), but if the whole premise of our “model” is to buy cheap and sell on for profit then the model (if there is indeed a model) is currently failing. I personally put that down to average recruitment, not awful but just average for the money we’ve spent.

I disagree, the players are good but lack experience around them. Robins was trying to sign a CM, a CB and RB/LB before the window closed and we were unsuccessful with that.

Sunderland’s team is more or less the same as last season but they added experience. Now they’re near the top of the table with a team that struggled like our did.

Our players will have massive resale value if we can turn things around this season.

People have said regularly that ‘since the performance director has come in, performances haven’t improved’ and made similar points about our recruitment because she does fitness and psychological testing. Her influence, with respect, has been massively overblown.

There’s also been numerous posters suggesting it was she had input on the coaching structure (including getting rid of AV) earlier in the season too.

She was involved in interviews for staff and worked with Austin on the psychological profile of signings. These are her words.

Pretty sure Robins, Dean Austin and King are on record saying that the manager (Robins, now FL) identify the profile of players they want, Austin gives a shortlist that the manager agrees on for the owner / Austin to negotiate the deal with the club.

There’s been no mention of a selection panel.

Isn’t that literally what the “modern setup” is? Head coach works with the long term plan of the DoF and the deck assembled by the recruitment team?

Lampard will actually report to the one person on the board - Doug King

What of it? The manager had final say on recruitment of staff and players. Which trumps any weird obsession you have about this Dr Roberts.

When I hire a person, I have someone from HR with me, they are a part of the process but they don’t outvote me on who to progress.

Im not obsessed. Just clear about her position and it’s not fitness coach. You and a few others are desperate to play down the role the likes of Austin and Robert’s have at the club.

Pretty much - although in your world where job titles and org charts rule supreme you can quickly see that it’s completely unworkable in an industry where managers and head coaches are all-powerful. Which is why I highly doubt that Roberts/Austin/mystery DoF will wield as much influence as you suggest they might.

Lampard is here to run the show and make the final calls, he will get his way as long as Doug King allows him. Otherwise, he’ll just walk.

Well it’s clearly a nonsense cos Lampard brought in his own coaches and there’s talk of him being create at bringing players in. That’s my whole problem with it. You’re changing replacing maybe three or four coaches each times with essentially twice that because it’s the manager who ultimately sets the tone and picks the staff.

I wish I could keep up with all of this.

So Robins had to go because he wasted untold millions on players and couldn't get a tune out of them. This has become Frank doesn't get to choose the players that come and go and the players are chosen by someone Frank can't get rid of.

So has Frank got less of a say than Robins had or do we just go along with what sounds best at the time with both sides of the coin being stated as fact?

I’m not desperate to play down their role.

The first thing you change in a football club is the manager when things go wrong. It’s only when you churn through managers like Man U where the issue seems to be the structure rather than the manager.

As it happens, people are desperate for Robins to not be the problem. At various points, people have tried to say he’s been undermined by the changes in a way to take accountability from Robins.

Robins is still our greatest manager in the post-Prem era by a long shot. It’s entirely possible that the changes he implemented this summer led to his downfall.

We’ve undoubtedly strengthen our squad from 22/23 and even last season. There are gaps but there’s no excuse for the amount of poor goals we’re seeing and drop off in individual performances. At the end of the day, that’s on Robins and his staff.

What is all this talk of "the deck"? is it terminology widely used in football these days? or are people just using it because King used it?

Are you saying Robins implemented changes that took a lot of say away from him or is this a guess?

I'm still under the impression that things changed when King took over, like not bringing in loans to cover what we all know was needed. My reasoning for this is how quickly Robins went from hero to zero. Maybe King and Robins ended up having a bust up with the way things are going.

The no loans policy has never been a thing. We signed Ayari and Binks last season. Ayari is a class player as evidenced this season, just not for us or Blackburn.

Before then, we used loans to fill holes in our squad. Signing players on a permanent is obviously a good thing.

This season, no loans but we were actively pursuing a few loanees. We just couldn’t secure them…

Was this because we lost jokers like OHare? Or because we thought we were signing some diamonds like EMC but ended up getting clubbed by players like BTA and by not improving defence and CD we have in fact doug(deliberate spelling mistake) a hole with a spade in leaving the team short of experience and not showing passion or putting there heart into every match

Asked about the absence of loans, Robins explained the club’s stance, saying: “It shows the strategy of the club more than anything. There are some really good loans out there, that’s clear. We have used the loan market well in the past, but the difficulty with that is you get to a stage where three, four or five loans then go back at the end of the season and you have a big hole to fill. And that’s difficult.”

He added: “But if you have good loan players from top clubs then they can make a difference, as they have done in the past, and obviously we have converted some of them into permanents, namely Callum O’Hare being one of them. Ben Sheaf was another, as was Viktor Gyokeres, so we have used it pretty well in the past. But the strategy of the football club is that we now try to bring our own players in and develop them. Obviously you have assets there and you can then trade at whatever point you want to. But ultimately you have to try to get a squad that’s cohesive, that works together and lives together on a daily basis and are aligned with aims, objectives and goals.

If you believe where it came from and don't try and call it click bait.

The words from the mouth of Robins are there. That's from before it all went wrong. Yet some try and absolve King of anything wrong and blame Robins for everything. Not surprised by yourself as had a look at some old Robins out threads. You were at the head of most of them. Wasn't it Jackett you wanted a few years ago?

Well you have your wish. He is gone. Glad you didn't get your wish of Jackett though.

Great reply. Didn’t expect a reply because what you have said doesn't stand up at all.

How about a reply to the questions that followed from what you said? It is all there. Things started going downhill with the lack of loans last season when we knew we would struggle when the injuries came. This season we were watching the loans go everywhere but to us. We knew we were light again. Yet it is all supposed to be about Robins not being good enough. Yet by the look of what has been stated here Robins didn’t even get the choice of players that came to us. And most agree that our defence isn't good enough.

I hope Frank gets more of a say or he is wasting his time coming to us.

We have no idea what Lampard thinks of Austin. That will be the key. Our recent recruitment has been odd. I was amazed we pursued Binks and personality wise I’d have gone for different to Dovin. But the real issue is we haven’t recruited based on a firm game plan. The squad is very unbalanced. But I’ve no idea if that’s Austin, Robins or King.

It's Austin as he identified the players and Robins put his faith in Austin.

The presence of Austin at the post dismissal forum suggests that Doug felt the players Austin identified were good enough and Robins was the issue.

Or as my thoughts are Robins let King know of his dissatisfaction of the position so he had to go.

I just hope that King has learned from this and gives Frank the tools he needs. Because no manager/coach would be happy with this debacle.
