I don’t know if they do end of year reviews like some of us normal folk in work but he’s failed and needs to leave with immediate effect.

He has fucked up a serious amount of cash with Robins approval on a load of bang average and mentally weak football players.

Why Robins thought he would be a good appointment is beyond me and this is what happens when you bring a mate in rather than someone with credibility of being a top scout before taking on such a role as Head of Recruitment.

I genuinely feel sorry for Lampard having to pick up this mess left behind for him. We need to give him time to re-shape and mould this squad to enable us to be competitive.

Austin cannot be allowed to stay on at the club any longer and is a risk to the business.

It’s a strange one. If you assume it’s all down to him you have to say he’s identified some good players. The problem is there isn’t a cohesive shape or style. Is that his issue? The only piss poor signings I’d say are Torp, Binks, Collins and Dasilva. You can make a case for the rest at the price we paid.

Robins would have asked for the types of players and positions he was looking to fill. But agree they don’t seem as if they can work together for some reason.

To be fair if this is what we wanted we should have had a sporting director in place before Lampard was appointed… making these big changes should be done in the correct order….

The thing is it should have been sorted before the January window too…

You can't really argue with that tbh mate bang on.

Collins
Bobby Thomas
Binks
Kitching
Dasilva
Joel Latibeaudiere
Brandon Thomas Asante

They are all terrible players and woeful signings. We have wasted absolute millions on dross.

Even Raphael, he's played 3 minutes of Football.

It really is dreadful.

King’s masterclass in negotiations.

The sooner Austin is gone and a DoF comes in the better.

That’s a mid table L1 team recruited. To be fair Raphael we haven’t seen enough of yet. But what dross the others are.

But we are not allowed to question the Performance Director who previously discussed her involvement in using psychometrics to ensure that recruitments are the right fit.
I don't think it is just Austin that should be under the spotlight.
Dr Roberts came into post Feb/March 2023. Since then our recruitment has been questionable at best (particularly the amount paid); our on-field energy levels have been inept (despite supposedly having Premier league level fitness); our team spirit seems shot; and our team performances have mostly been relegation form.
Maybe she has done some amazing work behind the scenes. If so, it certainly hasn't been transferred to the pitch.

because his new boss knows nothing about football or what happened at the club in the past so he's blamed all the failures on the fella that's not here anymore and taken credit for all the successes.

sure we've all worked with people like that

Which is probably part of the issue. The only slot I think it's conceivable for him to get a run is wide right even though I think his preference is through the middle.

He looks poor on the left, he must be at best 3rd in the pecking order to play centrally so it's just cameos for him.

Think we also should ask questions of Dr Roberts. We were told she was now involved in recruitment to ensure we got in players who had the right attitude.

Would anyone argue that the signings now have a better attitude and personality than those we had previously?

The defensive signings are nothing short of a disgrace. They're all bad championship players, not 1 of them should be at the club GK and mve included.
Midfield hasn't been fixed since Hamer left.
The forwards are a bit of a head scratcher. Simms and Bassette don't seem to be the answer, certainly not BTA. Then the 2 decent forwards both play in the same position.
He should've been sacked at the same time as Robins, comprehensively failed in the recruitment. That's presumably on Austin, Robins and King. How just changing Robins for Lampard is fixing any of the big issues I don't know!

Hmmmm he employed a new coach that hasn't really got a very good track record, not saying Lampard won't do well/decent as yet but his dealings so far don't look particularly fantastic at the minute wasting circa £43 million on the team that appears to want a total update yet again by trusting the likes of Austin etc ...time will tell

The fact Dickhead Doug had Austin alongside him at the Fans Forum shows King has faith in him long term.

This is Dean Austin’s first job in recruitment/scouting. How on earth can you appoint someone who was a failed manager at Farnborough and Northampton to be your head of recruitment for tens of millions of pounds? Doug is a clueless egotist who should take his brother and cooking oils and fuck off back to Norwich.

The straw clutching on here is painful. We’ve made a whole host of fucking bang average signings for too much money. As soon as we actually got some funds for the first time in years due to player sales we were like kids in a sweet shop.
We need to go back to basics and build a team with players in correct positions , not to try and buy a few kids that
Might turn a profit .

He's spunked a lot of money down the drain doubt we would recover half of it now with how this squad has evolved very disappointing

Weird thread. It was this group of players who got us to an FA Cup Semi Final, where they were robbed of a Final by a questionable decision. Minus Palmer (who many on here mocked and berated), and O'hare (who spent most of the season inured). The squad was the envy of most of the football league, and many predicted they'd win automatic promotion this season.

How is that bad recruitment?

Having said that, not sure about signing Binks permanently and bringing in BTA. Rudoni appears to have been a good addition. EMC is obviously a gem.

Even if we take it as red that the changes to personnel youve mentioned have weakened the squad should they make that much difference?

I mean we have regressed a little bit, we've gone to absolute shit. I can't understand it

Can we stop using an FA cup game, which I doubt Man U were massively bothered about and in which we played really poorly in the first half as some sort of measure of our previous greatness?
We lost all the quality we had and picked up a load of bang average players at top dollar.
That's the problem and one that's going to take a lot of time and care to sort out.
