Became a dad again during the week looks to have had his operation. Should we try sign him in the summer or would he not break into the team ahead of Kelly and Bayliss?

If free, if cheap wage wise perhaps but he’s hardly featured as he, hardly used as a sub either. But he looks a decent player and the right type

If the recruitment team can find someone better, we should do it.

Although, I'm keen to see how Shipley gets on in the middle during this last stretch as we may not need another CM if he plays well. It's a difficult one because Kelly is vital to our team, yet is quite injury prone and signing someone who is 'high-profile', like Ogogo, hasn't gone to plan for us.

I'm not sure, I guess the physios would have more of an idea but even without his shoulder injury he hasn't looked right.

I agree, Shipley at centre mid is his natural position and looks comfortable playing there, we also have Westbrooke coming through so Meyler may not be needed, but I do think he’s a decent experienced player to have at the club to help the youngsters.

Apparently he's a very positive force around the club off the pitch
If he's available within the budget it would make sense
With such a young squad you need a few older heads who've been through the mill themselves

The thing with that, aren't we better off getting positive coaches rather than paying a player loads who won't play but is influential off the pitch?

Why on earth would we? His career screams washed up and in terminal decline

Would rather decent players on the pitch grinding out results. Reading can send him elsewhere to get match fit. We have managers and coaches to keep players cool.

We need some leadership from somewhere though to get us through a promotion campaign. There's very little leadership in our defence which gets sucked too deep too often - no-one in there demanding them to get up the pitch. Kelly isn't shy to have a moan but he's carrying a very young team on his shoulders and is more of a leader by example. This year's experienced heads haven't worked out well in Brown, Ogogo.
In terms of summer recruitment, the musts are a GK, RB, a new forward to play on the right of the 3, possibly another CM. In a set up that relies on pace, I would say the RB and Forward will be young and quick (see Robins preference for Sterling over Grimmer and Mason over our other LBs) which leaves only the GK and a back up CM position where we could add in some experience. Would love a GK who can organise the defence and then why not Meyler as the back up midfielder IF his fitness is up to it.

Congratulations on the baby, Meyler!

Unfortunately, I wouldn't want him back next season based on what I've seen.

Although a positive character around the club, I believe his career as a player is in decline.

Think he can do a job in this league and probably the championship. Hasn’t been the most impressive on the pitch this spell, but hasn’t ever been fully fit or had a run of games to show what he can do . If he can get a full pre-season under his belt he’d be an asset im sure.

We won’t be able to afford him either way. Doubt he’d come and play for 2-2.5k a week

His wife suffered a few miscarriages he was contemplating giving up the game.,I hope he can get himself right and back to the level he was at would love to see that here with us. Not long ago he was driving on his country as captain under Martin O Neill.

I can only judge on what I've seen of him this season, and he has shown nothing on the pitch to suggest we should sign him. We have signed a lot of "names" in the past based on their past reputation rather than current ability and they have been poor signings.

It's a no from me.

Thinking of some of the other “experienced heads” we signed makes me shudder.
Keith O’neill-Paul Trollope-Horacio Carbonarie-Trevor Benjamin-Dean Holsdworth-Arjan DeZeeuw-Herman Hreidarsson-Stephen Hunt-Darius Henderson-Marcus Tudgay-David Meyler et al......

Feed the Yak. I’d put Meyler in Room 101 of City players with this guy, and loads more than I care to list

There wasn't much leadership from those three
Hunt was more interested in trying to sign up young players for his new career as an agent
Ricketts, Doyler and now Meyler have been the main leaders on and off the pitch in recent seasons
Doyler was a more confrontational type whereas the other two have a more positive approach based on encouragement and advice

Why do people on here say fook instead of fuck? :-(

As for Meyler, I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement.

It will all be down to budget and prorities, I would think senior goalkeeper is number one priority, they ain’t cheap and we might need an understudy too.

What's he actually done with us to justify a longer contract?

If we've learned anything in the last year or two it should be that team spirit is very important. When you get the players working for each other and having a good time it brings a positive atmosphere that improves results.

I'm not saying sign him to be mates with players but I hope we're factoring in to who we sign.

Didn't Hunt fall out with a lot of the younger players, particularly Maddison?

He seems a very likeable guy and positive influence around the younger lads however being brutally honest, looks very immobile and past his prime on the pitch.

It’s a no from me
