Today's 451 was awesome; I like the way that Bailey was the highest up the pitch, meaning that our pressing was transformed to 30 yards higher up. I remember when Barcelona used to use an attacking-midfielder who was a ball-winner in that role, can't remember his name though, I think it began with a g...90's era. Anyway, it worked-as did Barton and Fleck as deep play-makers. Massive kudos to the manager IMO, even if he did arrive at that starting line up through accident thanks to injuries.
It was good first half but not particularly great second half. Agree I liked the fact we pressed high but would prefer someone more attack minded than bailey in that part of the field. We really lack two more specialised pact wide men.
I wouldn't say awesome, for all our dominance fort half we created very little apart from the goal and long range pot shots. Over all the figures say possession was 50:50
can't remember his name though, I think it began with a g...90's era.
Gabri? There's only him and Guardiola I can think of that fit the bill.
Cheer up, Stu, we won! It was the best performance of the season for me, especially first half. It was the first time I've seen a cohesive tactical vision intelligently put into practice. It was also gutsy and hard working. And sorry, but a more attacking player in that role behind Ball wouldn't have had the same impact.
I am happy we won. Apart from the score line the Crewe JPT performance was better. Yes we won today and lost that one but we could've quite easily have lost today with the chances they missed second half.
And yes it would work with a more attack minded player than bailey - or perhaps I ought to ring up barca and tell the, to drop Iniesta?
No, it was massively superior to the Crewe performance! In that we were wide open at the back, naive without the ball, and wide open to the counter attack that Crewe had set up to play. We lacked cohesion and a gameplan, it was a thousand miles an hour harem-scarem stuff.
Today we controlled the game for much of the match. Donnie had a spell where they came back into it, as any side with their quality of players is going to do, but we worked hard, closed down tirelessly, and defended well. With an injury ravaged squad and administration hanging over our heads, we out-fought, out-thought and outplayed the team top of the table (where are Crewe?).
I don't know what the hell you are watching fella!
Did he actually touch the ball?
Yep I remember that 50:50....unsurprisingly he lost it!
if you knew the answer, why ask the fecking question, he gets five minutes and you slag him off !
getting fecking boring now.
With added time he had 10 mins!!
I actually don't mind him, and if you want to trawl through posts I've actually stuck up for him quite a bit. I could remember the tackle but could remember if he'd had another touch, that's why I asked.
no need to post anything at all was there, dont feed the trolls who do actually hate him, weve bigger worries at the moment.
we held on to win for a change, more importantly...is Baker injured again? he was limping, but it looked more ankle than hernia related.
enough negative thoughts, positivity please
No, it wasn't either of them. Might not have been a G....was a real work horse, not that well known, definitely Spanish.
We shouldn't have risked playing baker so soon after a hernia op, I now this surgeon in Germany does it in a very non invasive way but still when he had it done last season he struggle for the first choke of games back, Also noticed Bailey feeling his groin in the first half, I was surprised to see him come out second half.
He delivered the best corner I'd seen all season. Actually landed in the six yard box on the head of a Sky Blue player. Baker/McSheff take note.
Bah, this'll bug me now. For 90s Barcelona Spanish midfielders I can only think off-hand of Amor, Bakero and Luis Enrique. Any of them?
That midfield we finished with Baker Bell Jennings Fleck - the worst I can remember since following Cov in the 70s. whilst I recognise Baker has played well this season he has been poor recently, Fleck has potential but was less than average on Saturday Jennings is just awful, a midfielder who can't tackle or shoot or pass more than 10 yards and Bell, unlucky with injuries but though him poor when fit lots of stepovers etc.. but minimal impact in the final third from open play, just too slow to be effective. For Bell and Baker to play in the same team our full backs will be very tired as they will have to do all the running.
