Sad to hear the death of Dave Wagstaffe, a great left winger. As a Sky Blue it was compulsory in the late 60s and throughout the 70s to hate Wolves players, apart from Waggy, there was, Peter Knowles, Mike Bailey and especially Derek Dougan.
As I said Wagstaffe was a brilliant winger but in those days almost every club had one, lucky ones had two right and left. We had Ronnie Rees equally as good, then from 1972 we had the great Tommy Hutchison, at the same time though there was Willie Johnston, Eddie Gray, Willy Morgan, Jimmy Johnstone, Peter Marinello, Charlie Cooke, Willie Henderson, (all jocks) also there was Gordon Harris, Ian Callaghan, Peter Thompson, Keith Weller, Ian Storey-Moore, Jimmy Husband and of course George Best there are others who's names escape me.
All these wingers had pace, skill, could go passed defenders inside or out and get crosses in. Where are these types of players (wingers) now ? Have we lost that skill factor ? Is this type of player redundant in the "modern" game. Find anyone remotely like any of the above and we would be turned into high-flyers immediately.

It's a lost art, the winger is a luxury lost to the modern game.
Sad but true.

A gentleman in the game. Privileged to say I played against him and half a dozen big name Wolves players whilst at Coventry Sporting Club. Steve Kindon, Kenny Hibbitt, Phil Parkes etc. All of whom were making "Comebacks" from injury at the time. 3-3 final score, and Kindon didn't get one. RIP "Waggy"
