Always think his strongest games are when he has Wright in front of him. EMC likes to stay on the touchline more and restricts his forward runs and I think Wright helps out better defending as well.

I’ve been one of his biggest critics but he’s been very good recently. He looks confident too

He’s so good with the ball in tight spaces. Defensively he’s stepped up recently. Even winning headers! Just needs to work on his final ball and if even say we could get away without replacing him. Long term though I think we need a different profile there.

He was brilliant yesterday, his best game in a city shirt, and has been good over the last 3-4 games. It was noticeable yesterday how much Wright came back to support him which EMC never does, so he was never really exposed. I thought he had a decent game at Hull although Gelhardt did give him a bit of a torrid time.

It's only taken 18 months and 70+ games to start showing up what he is capable of. But he's hitting form at the right time, so long may that continue.

Fair play to JDS. He was outstanding yesterday
Personally I am very happy to be proved wrong in this case. I really couldn't see a good player in him.
As others have indicated I think that this is down to work on the training ground
Our coaching appears to be as good as any as a good few players look to have improved appreciably.

Ah I thought that little heart shirt thing in the BBC 3 branding was the nations league. My mistake!

Not the best opposition but he hasn't looked out of place

Hopefully impresses scouts of other clubs, if we want to get promoted we need better, regardless of a few good games at the end of the season.

It’s like judging Tavares against Man Utd and hoping that he’s got something in his locker. JDS has disappointed me far too many times over the course of the two years he’s been here and for that… I’d rather us move on.

Could you imagine Toffolo/Brau and then on the other side having MVE/KKH to choose from each game

You can’t really compare a short sub cameo appearance in a single match to really strong final qtr of the season for club and country.

Im not saying he’s the answer but this isn’t a fair comparison.

Need to balanced with views on JdS, same as wright and not let recency bias kick in.

yea he’s been excellent on whole last 2/3 months, BUT there are still weaknesses which ultimately will hold us back.
Ideal world you upgrade both LBs - however, JDS form as given us option to maybe just upgrade Bidwell for now and focus money on other areas in short term.

Take Simms for example… Simms scored 19 last season and then disappointed this season. I’m not going to hold all my hope on that Simms can do that for us. I’m going to judge his performances over the whole duration and to be honest he’s not performed well enough. From memory Simms scored two hat tricks and a brace in that season so overall even then, it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows.
Same for JDS, over the course of all performances it’s not been good enough and we can do better.

I’d personally say overall consistency has shown Bidwell has given us more than JDS has.
Other than that I agree with you completely

The system we currently play doesn't suit a lot of our players. None of our forwards bar maybe a raw Bassette suit playing as a lone striker with their back to goal. Simms and Wright scored plenty of goals running onto the ball. Simms and BTA played well in a 2 together and both started scoring.
Bidwell has suffered more than anyone as Lampard wants his full backs to tuck in and play narrow. Bidders strength is getting tight to a winger and stops them turning and running at him. He gets away with body checking them and holding them all the time. Once he's narrow it allows the winger to turn and get into their running and his lack of pace is exposed. In the 433 neither Wright or EMC are the best at getting back and helping out.
LB would be my priority followed by a LCB. I'd be all in on Callum Doyle even if it meant breaking our transfer record too get him.

Would have agreed re JB - but the last 2 months I’ve just seen real drop off from him, think Father Time starting to catch up, quickly.

I think neither Simms or JDS suit the system we're trying to play.
It happens.
I still think JDS will stay and Bidwell will go.

I doubt Lampard will be able to assemble the squad he wants in this window, will take another 1 or 2 so we'll keep players out of neccesity more than anything else.

Don't know if I heard wrong/right but I think he's included for next game as the other guy has picked up an injury that counts him out.

Does anyone else feel his late season form might be down to him knuckling down and sorting out his fitness a little / the coaches forcing him to sort it out?

Never occurred to me that he wasn’t fit.

His form towards the end gives me hope for next year.

Myself and a few other people noted his chubby lad physique in a mid season city unseen video a little while before Lampard came in I believe.
