Likely to have been tapped up by Fatty Evans, so unlikely to be us, but would be funny if we pinched him!

Given the amount of money they've earned this season from selling players, I'd be astounded if it were us.

Yes. That, combined with Evans ' connection with Rose at Mansfield (although you'd think that might put him off). At the end of the day, if we were interested, it'd probably come down to wages. Glad that a few players have now moved /are moving as it may make it easier for us to acquire someone, without it becoming a bidding war. Fingers and everything else crossed.

Looking at those who have moved on, I still have doubts whether there would be any significant room in the budget to compete with the likes of Peterborough - only Beavon and Maycock have departed as of late, and both would be on fairly mediocre contracts. With only a week left of the window I fear MR may be pushed into securing loans, as any team who possesses a contracted goalscorer would only up the ante if we were to put a bid in for two reasons. 1. They know we're in need of a goalscorer. 2. There is little time to replace them once they departed.

Very true actually. Even if Robins could sell ice to an Eskimo I could bet my house on the fact he wouldn't be able to sell that one to a club!

I would have moved on weeks ago or got the player to force a move this has been a shambles and now we have wasted money on this bloke from Walsall who doesn’t sound like he would score if you stood him in front of goal and pointed the way.

No doubt of that.

Baffled how we (actually im not) after recieving at least £3M from Maddison/McNulty this summer , we cant dictate and dangle the cash at strapped clubs in league 2! For strikers such as Doige/Rose/Kee or even Christian Dennis?

I think maybe because it doesn’t fit in with the buy cheap develop and sell policy most of them are at the top of their value

I am disappointed in a number of our acquisitions and general policy over the summer

MR has gone for quantity and not quality in several cases. Don't get it !

The buy cheap and young then sell for profit is all well and good but you can't have your whole transfer policy based on that, its nuts. Sometimes you need to buy for now not for the future. Our transfer policy has been very blinded

It's a results business we need guys who can get the job done right now blended with youth. You would have thought we would have learnt our lessons from two yrs ago when we had a young inexperienced squad which lead to relegation to league two

Exactly. I have absolutely no problem with signing young non leagers to develop, unearth a gem, blend into the team but that's signings like Walters, that Morgan cb guy, boswa. We've sold our striker who scored 2 goals less than salah in 5 months by a guy who hasn't scored that many in his entire career. Some positions you don't fuck about with and with us having jch, jp, mb, ab and jh plus maybe cc, we are fucking about

Fully agree, I mentioned this week's ago and got lambasted for it, the first team needs to be priority when it comes to transfer business. Don't even get me started on the Chaplin embarrassment, should have moved on and signed a replacement weeks ago.

We did sign replacements?

Just because they havent done much in a couple of games with no service doesn't mean they don't exist. It was the same last year when McNulty wasn't scoring people just demanded signing more and more strikers.

Talking in general here but he seems he has no game plan, wants to play a certain formation but didn't sign the players for it. Hasn't signed a decent keeper, so now stuck with 2 who struggled at a lower level. Haven't replaced the lost goals from McNulty. This summer's transfer dealing at this moment looks to be poor at best.

Because we don’t have the cash to dangle? The owners won’t put cash in to support the losses.

That means the club needs to support itself, we need to sell every year to keep the club running. The money brought in has seen multiple contract renewals, nearly 500k spent on transfers and 9 players in.

Even Charlton & Shrewsbury said we were offering more than both of them to bring in a player who wanted to go to London.

Further to this, Robins will be Keeping some back for January and he loan market. I don’t see how people simply think - Madders money in = transfer budget

The amount of people that commented in the "aid this thread best transfer window ever" thread before a ball was kicked that are now commenting saying the exact opposite after one league loss is laughable.

Remember last season when McNulty wasnt scoring and people were calling him a bag of shit, asking why he was being played and even signed?

A lot of our signings are young and may take a few weeks to bed in and get up to speed, look at Bakayoko, he was with the squad what? Couple of days before he was thrown straight into the first team, without ever having really trained with his new team mates, got used to our style of play or tactics. Same goes for Hiwula.

Also we've got Andreu who looks to be getting better every time he plays and Jones to come back into the fold, not to mention Allasani who has been performing well for the U23s and can only see it as a matter of time until he's thrown into the mix.

Fellas there's been 2 league games, we've lost one of them and we're arguably the better team for most of that and the draw with Wimbledon
. Write off the Cup, we've gone out in the first round of that 10 out of the last 12 times anyway.

Nows not the time to start lashing out at Robins and the players. I have every faith we'll come good sooner rather than later, one win behind us to bring a bit of confidence and there will be a lot of folks in this thread in particular with egg on their faces

We're back to the first 3 months of last season again. Hiwula has missed the one chance we've created in both opening league games and suddenly all our strikers are shit, just like McNulty was when he was played through on the diagonal vs Colchester and slid it inches wide, on the back of failing to create anything vs Newport and Yeovil.
It's the midfield that is broken and we're creating a half chance or two per game and expecting our strikers to have proved they are McNulty replacements. Nothing will get better until that changes and until it does we simply have no idea whether the forward signings are any good or not.

It seems pretty much the same, creating absolutely nothing but people just saying we should get more strikers like there's an unlimited supply.

If we were creating 4 or 5 proper chances a game and they were being wasted it would be understandable.

Really too hard to tell, especially with the strikers.

Robins needs to sort his system out before anything to give them some service.

I think people think it's like FIFA where you can have one player pick it up at the half way line and they should skin about 5 players then bang it in the top corner. Otherwise they are shit and we should have replaced mcnulty.

....even though we had the same problems at the start of last season and everyone was saying how shit mcwankty was and how big bad sisu should have invested in a goal scorer....

Cracks me up

Say we signed rose or Chaplin how long do we wait til we need to sign another striker if they haven’t scored in say 3 or 4 games?

Bit of perspective, Chaplin can’t get into Portsmouth’s team who are in the same league as us, why is he the messiah for us but clearly isn’t good enough for them?

We’re 3 games into the season, maybe we should wait for the season to actually start before we start pressing the panic button eh!

You’re making a judgement after 3 games. Robins said straight after the Scunthorpe that this team will need a few weeks to kick into gear. Whilst I’m underwhelmed at our business in the striker department, I do trust Robins to get it right, ultimately.

As long as we don’t get relegated, I’m happy with consolidating this year. I’m happy that we’re investing in the future.

For me until we sort out the midfield and get that functioning properly we can't fully assess where we are at defensively let alone the strikers.

The main disappointment for me is Robins seems to be suggesting players are still a week or two away from being at the right fitness levels.
