Old enough to remember Paul culpin signing from nuneaton. Excellent goal record for them but jump to old div 1 was too much for him.

Embarrassing use of "no" instead of "know" by a professional writer.

I saw both of Paul Culpin's goals for city, rounded the goalie at Villa Park and then at home to Man city in the Xmas of 86

Yep was a step too far at that time and was too big a leap. But is it too big a leap from Tamworth to where we are now? Maybe not.

It is probably worth a punt, at the right price. Kevin Philips made the jump pretty well. Huckerby came to us from a few leagues down and was good.

On the train of unsuccessful jumps, where did Simon Haworth and Kyle Lightbourne come from..?

Huckerby joined us from Newcastle who were in the PL with us.
Haworth was from Wigan and I think Lightbourne was Stoke or Port Vale

Ah yes I remember now, Hucks was at Lincoln and Notts County before Newcastle...

My brain has been too riddled with alcohol to remember that far back!

Huckerby had never played for Newcastle. He'd been on loan at Millwall I think in either Division 1 or 2 as was.

So I got just both of them wrong them. It was a long time ago in my defence although I can still remember the disappointment when I got to a game or 1 or both of them were playing

Yep-2 piles of crap both of them. File them in the Nick Proschwitz/Kevin Kyle folder.

Yep, that's the one. Cross (or corner) from the right (Kop end) and Culpin hit it in at the near post, only a yard out at best.

Good luck to him, nice to see players getting breaks back in the pro game.

Hope he gets a chance tho, they had a top striker in Matty Godden scored 20 league goals last year.

I'm a little disappointed we didn't sign him, I love to see a non league unproven player make the step up, just hope we don't regret it.

Don't want to upset you even more but Leicester City and Everton are watching Jordan Ponticelli with a view to taking a punt on him.

We can have fun Nick but every player mentioned tonight is being watched by teams in higher leagues than us so perhaps the players are not the problem .

3 goals in 3 league games for Stevenage, a good start to life in L2 with a goal in each game.

Any player here especially youngsters with real promise will be vulnerable to be "nicked" by the bigger fish, we are a FOURTH division club who also pay is little wage as possible apparently. Unfortunately those "bigger" fish include the likes of Fleetwood, Burton Albion Bury etc

Culpin had a very good scoring record in our reserves. I always thought he was unfortunate not to get more first team opportunities.

That's rubbish though isn't it? I get what you're saying but we signed a player from Norwich, championship level. Although they terminated his contract, I'm sure he could've done a job in L1, but he chose us.

And paying as little wage as possible...isn't that what all clubs should be doing? 'Not' doing that in the 90's set us on our path South.
