Pre season is finished. The free scoring start, the non league defeats, the recruitment is almost complete bar two trialists, the final three consecutive league opposition victories bagged. But now our focus is temporarily on the League Cup: let us name our league cup starting XI and formation plus any tactics or thoughts about this match only.

My feeling is strongest team, morale boosting win playing the diamond. Fleck would feature but for injury.

Murphy
Clarke, Wood, Malaga, Hussey
Kilbane
Baker, McSheffrey
Barton
Ball, McDonald

Tactics on how we should go into this game?
We should score more goals than them. Then dance around with our shirts over our heads going wild loads.

I'd go as follows:

Dunn

Clarke Wood Malaga Hussey

Kibane (If Jennings not signed)

Baker Daniels

McSheffery

Ball McDonald

Subs:
Burge
Edge
Brown
Elliott
Jeffers
Polo (if signed) or ROD
Garner

Barton ain't available as he's on international duty!

So you would go with Dunn when we have Murphy?

I reckon he will play Brown rather than Malaga.

Only to give him some competitive game time. Murphy would be first choice for the league games. Not sure id start Malaga either for the league but needs game time and Thorn hasn't used him much at all recently. I'd want a few players to be given a chance that might not start in the league

I doubt we'll play a strong team, no point, it's daggers, we're not going to get past R3 and we may as well keep the defo starters fit for Yeovil.

You do know Barton in on International duty

Let me guess?? Is this a response to Bell and
Elliot in the team?

And Hussey dropped??

Elliot ahead of Ball for experience.
I like Hussey but can't have him and McSheffrey on the same wing as not enough defensive cover.
And as for Bell. Each to their own, but I'd start him and have 60 mins of him putting the ball in the box.
All subjective at the end of the day

Having said that I forgot Barton will be back. So him centre mid with Thomas and baker instead of Bell.

Having said that... I've also forgotten Fleck!!! On a positive note, the team is shaping up nicely with the prospect of both Jennings and Polo signing and Wood staying

Yeh I'd forgotten that. Might put Cody behind front two of Ball and Elliott or maybe put Sheffers there and put Hussey on left Wong ahead of Kilbane at left back. Bring on Daniels at back of Diamond unless Jennings signed.

All clear then?

I'm wondering if Daniels is going to figure in the holding role. Thorn has played him there a few times now, perhaps the last 3? I'd hope to see Jennings sign in time though and play this:

....................Muphy

Clarke.... Wood..... Brown..... Hussey
....................Jennings
........Baker...................Barton
.....................Fleck ( McSheff if hes injured)
............Cody...............Ball

Subs:
Dunn
Malaga
The Edge
Kilbane
McSheffrey
Elliott
ROD/Polo

If it is a case of waiting on wood or hidey to go first.
I would rather keep them than have Jennings.

bell on the pitch?
baker in centre mid?
no kilbane, jennings, barton or fleck?
I like elliot but would have a big guy up there to partner mcdonald to start with
and clarke at left back?

I doubt Fleck will be risked in a cup game even if he is 95% fit to play

I've already commented that I forgot about Barton and Fleck. So said Barton in mid, Baker out on right.

Jennings isn't ours yet so can't comment.

Perhaps Kilbane instead of Clarke left back (and then Clarke for Christie), but does he have 90 mins in him??

Bugger thought Fleck was back for this one. What are we doing signing international players! Elliott in for Fleck. Who will replace Barton for creativity.

I personally think Thorn should not play a full team. He should play something like this:

Dunn
Clarke Malaga Edge Hussey
Daniels
Baker Kilbane
Jeffers
Elliott ROD (Hungarian if signed)

Players like Hussey + Clarke to play v Yeovil

-----------------Murphy---------------
--Clarke--Malaga--Wood--Hussey--
----------Jennings--Kilbane----------
--Baker---------Fleck------McSheffrey--
-----------------Cody-------------------

Don't think we have enough central midfielders at the moment to play the diamond, as evidenced by some people putting McSheffrey in the central midfield role.

If Fleck is out injured then play Ball and make it 4-4-2.
