Announced retirement. Genuinley liked him as a player and always gave 100%. Awful what happened to him at forest green thanks to the human potato that is troy deeney. Will be remembered more for his help of our rise than his penalty miss.

That's the reality for a professional footballer, one injury you can't recover from or that constantly reoccurs or results in susceptibility to further injury and it's over. I hope Fankaty finds a way forward in his life.

Prior to his injury he was a joy to watch. Not the most technically proficient, but could be an absolute machine on the right when he got going, a proper athlete.

He was behind us somewhere at The Valley, but didn't see him. Saw JDS being hassled constantly for photos, etc.

Great servant for the club. Instrumental in our rise from league 1 and survival in the championship.

Injuries ruined his potential, but he never hid.

After seeing him score 2 OGs at Oxford, I’d never have believed he’d be such a good player for us. Just goes to show. Best RB in L1 that year and decent in the early days of the champ until the injuries caught up. A reminder that you have to have a bit of luck to make it to ‘veteran’ status.

It's a shame what happened to him, he was absolutely mega during the title season, but then injury seemed to absolutely wipe him out. His legacy here should be how good he was and how important a role he played in that league one title season.

He was an integral part of our rise and always will be. Indirectly players like Dabo will have helped us get back to the premier league - please god! Also loved his song. Wishing him all the very best for the future

Outstanding player in League 1, and great in the Championship until injuries started to take their toll.

Wish him all the best for the future.

A genuinely likeable and talented player in our first title-winning season in decades, who deserves a better legacy than injuries and penalty shootouts will allow him.

I think he is quite sentimental to the fan base which ends up with things being rewritten a bit. He had a very good first season that we will all remember for the right reasons, but he did seem to regress soon after that. Four seasons in total, of which one was excellent, one was ok, and two were pretty awful. The last couple of seasons he was here, he was really not up to it anymore.

Wish him the best, and hope he has a good future with whatever he decides to do.

I get this, he wasnt the most technically gifted but he didnt half give his all even against superior players. When he got the ball in space in league one he was hitting the byline by hook or by crook

He's put out quite a humble and sincere statement there*, in stark contrast to some of the weasel words you get from a lot of modern players. It's never nice to see anyone forced out of the profession through injury, and I hope he finds happiness in whatever comes next.

* hopefully it's not exposed as generic ChatGPT drivel

He got off to a promising start in the Championship to be fair, but the injuries properly fucked him up and there was no coming back from them. Certainly deserved more than to round his career off at the bottom of League 2 anyway.

I don't think anything is being rewritten but I'm pretty sure he played for us when injuries should have prevented him from doing so, which has probably helped lead to his forced retirement. We should also keep that in mind when judging the latter part of his time with us.

A great shame. He was one of my favourite players in our league 1 days.

He was only 29 when he was injured; 30 now
